I checked the Advanced 3D settings and mine has been set to Advanced 3D render.

I then checked my layers and I have found one layer that I have added since (the layer is an image of a light). I have found that if I use the eye switch to turn it off that it corrects the problem. It is a 2D layer above both of the previous layers (the dancer and the circle).

How might I correct this problem assuming the image of a light layer is the trouble. What should I do if I need to add more 2d layers to the composition, will the same thing happen again?

Thank you so much for your help, I was going out of my mind with that. I thought I would have huge task of masking round the dancer!

er one of two things –
1) You’ve switched your comp settings to use the Basic 3D render plugin instead of the Advanced 3D render. Change this in the Comp’s advanced tab.
2) You’ve inserted additional layer(s) into the comp that disrupted the rendering order of the 3D layers.

Ah of course! How could I forget! I used to run second systems like that doing live visuals with vision mixers and the like. I think I’ve been stuck in this animation so long I think I’ve lost the ability to think outside adjusting keyframes!

Thanks for your suggestions, I have had some positive results this evening from my own tinkering, and I’ll give your suggestions a go overnight, so I am feeling better that it will be possible.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but what do you mean by a live backup system?

I’ll have a look at Sorenson Squeeze and Apple’s Compressor.

Although the resolution is better than HD, I would still hope to shrink it in size significantly from what it is at the moment.

The file will be projected using three projectors linked together as a single signal using Matrox’s TripleHead2Go box as part of a live dance film and animation installation.

It contains a dancer, with the background chroma keyed out, moving around animated still objects. So the actual content of the video contains less information to compress than a movie file I would imagine?

The need to get the file size smaller is so that if can be played of a laptop with out any dropped frames.

Thanks for your help again, I’ve just been through and accurately trimmed my layers, some hadn’t been and some were a bit out!

I had previously been working on the comp at the lowest quality resolutions and with the other suggestions you mentioned, but I was unaware that it would still process the layers which weren’t trimmed, hopefully that should speed things up a bit now!

My next task is to try and get the size of the final file size down….Any ideas?

Thanks for your help. As I was trying to get to sleep last night I did wonder whether exporting some of the layers and then bringing them back in would ease things up a bit. I’ll give that a try later today.

Unfortunately the project kind of snowballed out of control before having the time to properly figure out the best way to go about building it all!

Hmmmmm….oh dear.

Well, the project I am working on is for an installation and exhibition, so the comp is 3072 x 768, running at 25fps.

Some of the layers are 3D but not all. There are only 2 lights and they are brief. And only the active camera so far. Although I don’t plan to add more.

There is one main video clip playing through out (dancer on a keyed out background, with nothing else going on), and then mainly animated still drawings for the rest of it. some images are bigger than 1000 pixels for scaling reasons.

Unfortunately I am running the files off a single internal hard drive (I usually edit video off an external, but don’t know why I started this project on the internal one!).

The render times are quite long. Can you suggest anything to improve my workflow with this project?

Thanks for that information, it’s something I didn’t know about and therefore consider!

I purged all, and then cleaned the database cache, and then tried to make movie so I can watch back what I have done, however the same issue occurred.

I checked my maximum RAM cache size however I don’t know if it is set at a suitable setting. It is currently on 60% = 1.2GB of 2GB RAM. My Max Mem Usage is set to 120% = 2.4GB and the enable disk cache is off. Do these sound like reasonable settings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

however, you may want to check your ‘Maximum RAM Cache Size’ and be sure that it is not set too low. you may have set it low to get your max multiprocessing capabilities but for this you also need sufficient RAM (4-5GB is good for an 8 core machine, 2GB will give you about 2-3 cores i think)

Darqlight on the Rise…

I am using a iMac Intel Duo, running Leopard, Adobe After Effects CS3. I phoned Adobe and they told me the Wacoms would work with Leopard and AECS3.

The Wacom tablet was purchase new last week so I’m assuming the drivers that came with it are up to date, I’ll check the site though still.

It is almost like the computer is doing some kind of render when the X Y info numbers are counting….As in I can’t click and do anything while it’s doing it, and the numbers will increase, then start again (I have no idea if they start from the “beginning” as they scroll kinda quickly.
