  • I’m not sure wether AE6 is capable of exporting XML files, but I think that would be the way to go if you want to be able to edit the text on FCP track.

    Good luck with that!

In order to loose the least amount of time, what I usually do is to export a reference movie (not self-contained), which doesn’t take as long, and then convert it using compressor while I keep editing. I found it to be the fastest way to keep working while still delivering to the client. The compressor stage is to make the file self-contained so that it would open on any other computer, regardless it has the raw footage you have on the timeline.

    Hope it’s usefull!!

    Hi Stephen,

I’ve done it a few times, and it’s not that tricky. Just export the xml as you usually do on FCP, and then on AE6 go to: File-Import-Pro Import After Effects
That command pops up a window to allow you to choose certain settings, but the default ones should be fine.

    Good luck!

    Mario,

I am currently editing a mixed system project (half of it is pal and the other half is ntsc). It constantly goes out of sync. My guess is that it has to do with the frame rate, so I exported all pal footage into ntsc with the same file names. I haven’t reconnected it yet, but if you do so before I do, please let me know how it goes.

    Good luck!!
    Alejandra
