July 30, 2015 at 3:59 am in reply to: Canon xf105: attempting to use an external mic and the internal mic at the same timeIt should work. I normally use a Rode NTG2 external mike through the XLR port on channel 1 and the internal mike on channel two on my XF105.
The mike selection switch is set to “MIC +48V” and “EXT” for channel 1 and “Line” and “INT” for channel 2. Make sure the switch is set to “INT” for the channel where you want the internal mike – otherwise it will be looking for an external mike.
Hope this helps.

On my XF105 (US version which has 60i/30p instead of 50i/25p), the shutter characteristics are different between 30p and 60i.
When shooting 30p at a 1/30th shutter or 60i at a 1/60th shutter, one has a 360 degree shutter angle.
When you go to 1/100th shutter from 1/50th shutter, you are decreasing the shutter angle from 360 degree to 180 degree. The result of going to 180 degree shutter is that pixels are exposed in a smaller time window due to the rolling shutter.
You might check out the BBC publication (now available at the European Broadcasting Union’s technical site): Colorimetric and Resolution requirements of cameras, Alan Roberts, Addendum 65 : Tests and settings on a Canon XF100/105E. It is available at:

https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/other/WHP034.pdf
-or-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/publications/whitepaper034The general advice in this test is to avoid shutter angles greater than 180 degrees.
Hope this help.

December 30, 2013 at 7:00 am in reply to: Recommendations: Point and Shoot “Video Camera”If you are willing to take a slightly larger camera, you might also want to look at the Canon XF100/XF105. They are significantly smaller than many “professional” cameras but they produce very good footage for their size.
For those into adventure, I have seen many people using the GoPro cameras which come with a waterproof case.
One of the problems that many still cameras with video have is that they can not focus or zoom while in the middle of a take. The Canon Gxx series of have this problem/feature.

September 1, 2013 at 6:40 pm in reply to: FCP X 10.0.9 – is there a way to get it to use all the CPU cores? Thanks – I have maxed the machine at 16GB RAM. So I guess we have to wait for Apple to enhance their software.

September 1, 2013 at 3:01 pm in reply to: FCP X 10.0.9 – is there a way to get it to use all the CPU cores?Apple describes the Macbook as follows in the tech specs: “2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz)”. It is the model “MacBookPro9,1”.
In the Activity Monitor, the CPU history has 8 hyperthreads and the CPU utilization seems to be basing 100% utilization on using all 8 hyperthreads.

I have successfully recovered photo files from SD cards using the utility RecoverRX which Transcend offers. It will scan the whole memory chip and copy any recovered files to a disk.
It can be downloaded from the Transcend web site:

You might want to check out the BBC/EBU camera tests which are available. They go through the various settings for cameras and mention which ones you might want to change (depending on application):
https://tech.ebu.ch/camtest/CamTestReports01
There is one for the XF100/XF105:

Hope this is useful.

You might find the following link useful. The C500 and C300 have similar import processes.
https://blog.abelcine.com/2012/02/07/how-to-import-c300-footage-in-avid-fcp-x-and-premiere/
Regarding the internal underlying mechanics of the process, I am not completely sure about the process (I have an XF105 which uses the same process). See the following link with my query:
