Gary… the tech thinks he figured it out. First, you can drag them directly in via the plug-in from glue tools. That’s the whole point of the program, that you can drag files directly in and work with them. The issue seems to be that the dpx files were loaded with an “illegal” key code. The key code is supposed to be a number but “no key code” was the only file name they used. This would appear to be the mistake which made the program crash each time. I should find out soon if this is the problem and will post the solutions that become available so others can learn from my situation.

final cut 6.0.2 quicktime 7.4.1,it’s not my computer because the files do not work on other computers as well. The files work within quicktime. I can bring them in to fcp, but when I try and use them or look at them with fcp the viewer turns dead gray… unusable. I can take a non dpx file and click on it and the viewer comes back, but otherwise the viewer is dead and the computer no longer will recognize that the viewer exists.

I don’t have photo shop so can’t answer that question. The dpx files play directily in quicktime because of the program form glue tools. They just don’t seem to want to work in final cut. The place that made the files for me has never had this problem before. No one seems to understand the symptom of this problem let alone the core of it. the dpx files were made on a citi system I believe. For some reason they have been categorized by my computer as color dpx files. I tried to change them to always open in quicktime, but that didn’t help. I just feel something is wrong in the way the computer has recognized the files.

OK Gary point taken. So after taking my dpx files to a friends computer, I found the files themselves are not working properly. Here are some basic things to know about my computer and such. power mac g5 2ghz, running final cut 6.0.2, quicktime7.4.1, the dpx files are coming over as color files it seems(Color DPX file/9.2 MB/type A filled packing method/cintel international/kodak dpx format/2048×1168/print density transfer type/6.89677e-41 frame rate- as an example). They will work in quicktime, but when I use the glue tools dpx sequence import and get them in my bin, I lose all the options on the viewer when I place them in the viewer…it just turns to a square of solid gray. Any ideas on how to open the files or what might be happening that needs to be changed would be greatly appreciated.
