dpx files with final cut pro
So according to glue tools I’m the first person ever with this problem. After importing dpx files into final cut pro and having them in my bin, when I try and move them to my previewer it freezes the preview window all gray with no controls. I can close the viewer and bring it back. The dpx files can be moved in to quicktime, but I can’t get them to work within final cut pro. The tech at Glue tools is stumped never seeing the problem before. He even gave me the new 3.0 program that comes out in a few weeks and that does not work. Anyone have ideas on a similar problem that might have happened with final cut pro not related to dpx. Maybe the solution is there some how. Very frustrated being there are no other programs out there that can handle dpx files with final cut.

OK you cannot move DPX files natively in FCP in any way shape or form, are you talking about the QT wrapper the GT puts around the file? which QT wrapper are you choosing?
You need to be FAR MORE SPECIFIC about what you are doing and what versions of the software and hardware are you working with.( FCP/ QT/ OS versions- type of files, source of you content – all of those things are important.
there are no TECHS at GlueTools either -I would bet you were talking to the guy that writes the code…..

OK Gary point taken. So after taking my dpx files to a friends computer, I found the files themselves are not working properly. Here are some basic things to know about my computer and such. power mac g5 2ghz, running final cut 6.0.2, quicktime7.4.1, the dpx files are coming over as color files it seems(Color DPX file/9.2 MB/type A filled packing method/cintel international/kodak dpx format/2048×1168/print density transfer type/6.89677e-41 frame rate- as an example). They will work in quicktime, but when I use the glue tools dpx sequence import and get them in my bin, I lose all the options on the viewer when I place them in the viewer…it just turns to a square of solid gray. Any ideas on how to open the files or what might be happening that needs to be changed would be greatly appreciated.

what did you create the original files in?
what do the DPX files look like in Photoshop?
if there were tiffs that someone turning into DPX you have issues.
Tell me what you mean about being able to see them in QT- my QT does not play with DPX files directly.

I don’t have photo shop so can’t answer that question. The dpx files play directily in quicktime because of the program form glue tools. They just don’t seem to want to work in final cut. The place that made the files for me has never had this problem before. No one seems to understand the symptom of this problem let alone the core of it. the dpx files were made on a citi system I believe. For some reason they have been categorized by my computer as color dpx files. I tried to change them to always open in quicktime, but that didn’t help. I just feel something is wrong in the way the computer has recognized the files.
