dpx files with final cut pro
SO my dpx files have been recognized by my computer as color dpx files. I can take these files directly in to my quicktime via the glue tools program. However when I try and bring them in to final cut pro, they kill the preview viewer. Every time I take a file from the bin and place it in the viewer the viewer turns gray and loses all functions. I have brought these files to another computer and it does the same thing. What could be wrong with these files. Is the computer not recognizing them properly? Am I choosing the wrong setting? No one seems to understand why this is happening. The place that made the files for me has never had this problem before. Glue tools has no answers. Can anyone figure this problem out?

Dude, you shouldn’t double-post. My suggestion is to use something other than Glue Tools. My guess is that it’s creating a Quicktime reference movie that points to the DPX files, and that it’s not compatible with FCP. AJA and Blackmagic products both come with a free utility to convert DPX into Quicktime movies. Even if you don’t have one of those products, you can probably still download the utility.

First off – you are view the GLue Tools File in FCP or are you trying to look directly at the DPX files individually?
the File > Import > GLue Tools DPX files > then point to the first file in the dpx folder always works for me.
you have not mentioned what version of FCP and QT are you on?

final cut 6.0.2 quicktime 7.4.1,it’s not my computer because the files do not work on other computers as well. The files work within quicktime. I can bring them in to fcp, but when I try and use them or look at them with fcp the viewer turns dead gray… unusable. I can take a non dpx file and click on it and the viewer comes back, but otherwise the viewer is dead and the computer no longer will recognize that the viewer exists.

well that would be a big problem.
thats the reason I asked about Photoshop- if it will not open the file it is not a legal DPX file.
