What is your current solution for this? By knowing this, we may be able to reverse-engineer a problem.

    Best,

    Hi Koko,

This look could be accomplished using a bunch of solids and masks. Also, don’t forget about the grid effect.

This tutorial should be a good place to start for you:

Are the frames being rendered over a network? I one heard a myth that AMD and Intel procs will sometimes cause the same frame to be rendered with a slightly different hue…

Other than that, nothing else comes to mind.

    Anyone else?

This all seems to be due to the fact that Adobe has been trying to slop this together for the longest time, and it’s finally starting to catch up to them.

Adobe has a feature request form on their site where you can request such things as native x64 builds. I already did. Consider it the software version of “writing to your congressman”…

Agreed. I’m planning on building a nice new Core i5 rig (for like, $500!), which should help with my C4D rendering. Does AE multi machine rendering work well with heterogeneous networks? Does the PC version of AE come with a Mac render license?

    Thanks!

No problem. Thank YOU for posting about this topic. I haven’t looked into it much, but multi-machine rendering for AE would really beef up my workflow…

I don’t know much about this topic, but I do know that network renders often get confused if you don’t have plugins installed across your whole network that are used in your comp to be rendered. Again, I don’t know if this will help, but it may be worth a shot…

    Quickly regarding instances:

Since AE is entirely 32-bit, it can’t access all of your cores without doing some trickery. When you enable multiprocessing, AE essentially sets up a mini render farm on your computer (this is where the trickery comes in). AE will start several “copies” of itself on your computer, and distribute the rendering job across each “copy.” For instance, when you enable multiprocessing on a Mac, you will see instances (“copies”) of a program called AEselfLink start up in Activity Monitor (which is the Apple version of Task Manager, of sorts). I believe on a PC, you simply see more than one instance of After Effects in Task Manager. There should be one instance launched per core of your CPU. In your case, the computer may be starting one instance per real core, or one instance per virtual core, hence why I asked.

Again, this whole process of getting AE to address all of your cores is a somewhat-sloppy-somewhat-clean work-around to non-native 64-bit support. Most of the time, it works great, but it can sometimes confuse itself over what cores/instances should render what frames (which may be the problem in your case). I would recommend checking with Adobe before anyone else, as it is probably a software and not a hardware issue (no offense to Adobe or their employees).

Hope this helps, and keep us posted!

I am probably the biggest multi-processing evangelist out there, so I’m glad that you’ve at least gotten that far (as many people would be wondering why it is rendering slow when it only uses ONE CORE!).

Anyhoo, be sure you are giving each render instance enough RAM. Now, the i7 may be confusing AE (or vice-versa) since there is the whole “virtual” core thingy. How many instances of AE launch when you enable multiprocessing?

This may be a question for an Adobe expert, who may be able to walk you through this more thoroughly. If you do end up contacting Adobe, please post your results (as I am about to build an i7 rig myself 🙂
