Hi, just a suggestion – Sony Vegas has the concept of a default project template, i.e. it will assume that is what the media is unless you tell it otherwise.
Try creating a new empty project, does that say interlaced or progressive? i.e. what does it say in the first (Video) tab “Template” dropdown?
Then hit that button to the far right of the template, hover over it and it should say “Match Media Video Settings”. if you press the button it will invite to select a clip from which it will take project settings. If you give it a progressive clip you should see a “p” in the template name. Just below to the right of “Field Order” it should display “None (progressive scan)”
If it still says interlaced the only thing I can suggest is double check the camera menu.

Hi,
the reason you see four channels in soundforge is because your camera has four channels, its a feature and not a bug! What goes on what channel is configurable in the camera menu. A typical configuration is you have the internal mic on ch3 and ch4 and the xlr on ch1 and ch2. If you didn’t use any external mic only the stereo channels are heard. However vegas has mixed the four channels down to two. Going back to the camera menu; I assume you acquired this camera and in the past somebody has configured it – so you need to look at the sound menu and report back on how it is configured.
Ok, I said the camera has 4 channels but you will probably see 8 in vegas (and Premiere for that matter). Now why do they have 8? I still haven’t that out 🙁 Perhaps Sony have cameras with 6 xlr? Not that it matters because vegas and content browser together give you a default stereo mix. You (Barry) should now see 8 mono channels. It may be that all the unexpected channels are off-screen. Check to see if all of them have no waveform. -
Hi,
The _RecStart box you see is/are known as ‘Media Markers’. Sony puts this one in by default (the essence mark) but you can enter others as part of your workflow. If you do not want to see them: (in Vegas) View > Event Media Markers then uncheck Show Marker Labels. Also the Ingest (er?) may have specified In and Out points, it is good information. I’m not sure if Vegas takes these as suggestions but I think it will act upon if you haven’t set your own point, so if you do stop viewing media markers, it may hide the in out points as well.To see all your audio channels make sure “Import Mxf as Multichannel” is selected on Options > Preferences > General . You may see 8 mono channels (perhaps 4 for the EX1). If you don’t do this something (e.g. Content Browser 1.1 or Vegas) will mix it down to one stereo channel – but you are better off being in control of the mix. Even the 8 channels seem to be composite.
As others have suggested, if you didn’t record the correct levels you may be out of luck.

Hi, I downloaded your clip and it appears to me to be what I would have expected. You overdid the aging effect a bit 🙂
SVP could not find an audio track, instead it created an audio proxy (which has no sound that I could tell). If there is audio there you will have to try some other tool.
The way to edit it is to forget the trimmer and just use the main timeline. Use ‘S’ (split) to separate the joined up clips you have. I put a little text in the middle and again all worked as expected.

Hi,
it will do the SOM/EOM metadata that you need, of course what they will make of all that other stuff is anyone’s guess 🙂 -
Hi,
I think you are out of luck on Sony Vegas for this, unless someone has a plug-in that would help (vast ?). I know of a project that might help but that will we some months off yet :-).
An option that might help now is here: https://www.digitalproductionpartnership.co.uk/downloads/metadata-application/
I’m pretty sure that will do what you want but… it will do a whole lot more as well. It is targeted at the British public service broadcast and the production community. Nevertheless it is based on smpte standards. I think it is free.
In their documentation they do suggest finding a post house that will do it for you [as anlternative] and that might be the cheapest way.
Also I suspect there is another piece to the puzzle; MXF is a very broad standard and people have published guidelines on how to use it for various applications, did they mention AS-03 or AS-11 ? -

February 6, 2014 at 8:05 pm in reply to: Cannot Import A Large Amount Of MXF Files But Can If Its A Few?Hi, out of interest – how many files are you talking abut? in terms of number if files and the total size of the files?
Are you using the Import command: File > Import > Media or are you Browsing to them in explorer and then Adding them to the Project Media?
cheers
