Here’s something I’ve never seen addressed, so I might be out of luck.

I’m submitting shows to a broadcaster. They want each hour-long episode to be a single file, “Just dips to black between the segments and preferably SOM/EOM data so there is no confusion about where the breaks are located.”

Ok, I get that SOM/EOM is metadata indicating start and end of message. Makes sense.

Can I put those into a file as it renders in Vegas? I’ll be rendering to MFX (XDCAM 35mbps).

    Hi,
I think you are out of luck on Sony Vegas for this, unless someone has a plug-in that would help (vast ?). I know of a project that might help but that will we some months off yet :-).
An option that might help now is here: https://www.digitalproductionpartnership.co.uk/downloads/metadata-application/
I’m pretty sure that will do what you want but… it will do a whole lot more as well. It is targeted at the British public service broadcast and the production community. Nevertheless it is based on smpte standards. I think it is free.
In their documentation they do suggest finding a post house that will do it for you [as anlternative] and that might be the cheapest way.
Also I suspect there is another piece to the puzzle; MXF is a very broad standard and people have published guidelines on how to use it for various applications, did they mention AS-03 or AS-11 ?

What an excellent looking program! Thanks for finding that. I don’t know if that is what the broadcaster is looking for, but I’m looking forward to using it anyway!

    Hi,
it will do the SOM/EOM metadata that you need, of course what they will make of all that other stuff is anyone’s guess 🙂
