You shouldn’t have to do that. Generally, if objects shift, it’s because you have some filters or behaviors that are causing them to be larger than the Canvas size. You can try setting the group to fixed resolution to address this.

The grid won’t be visible in the rendered project and you can turn it off in the Canvas under the View pop-up menu.
For a background, place your gradient in a 2D group. 2D groups aren’t affected by the camera.

Matt, when I brought in Illustrator artwork, the colors matched exactly, as you can see in the video. There must be something about your file that’s causing the issue – try with a fresh Illustrator file and just add a shape or text like I did and see if it works correctly as a test. I was using CS4 and Motion 4, let me know what you are using.
