Zak is right on – and just so you understand what is going on, filters, generators, and transitions applied in FCP do not make the trip to Motion.

February 2, 2010 at 6:08 pm in reply to: Overwrite / change master template

What you need to do is, in FCP, right or control-click on the template and choose Open in Editor (not Open Copy in Editor). Your changes will affect all instances.

You can also make a new template version, bring it into the Browser, then drag it over a template in the Timeline, wait a beat, and you’ll get a menu with options to replace the current template, all templates in the sequence, or all templates in the project.

I prefer to use the keyboard shortcuts to move layers and groups for this very reason – they are under the Object menu. Command-[ to move a layer or group down, Command-] to move it up. The same in Photoshop and After Effects, too!

Paint strokes are their own layers, and they are always 2D layers. Your best bet is to frame the wall with the frame command, then you’ll be able to paint on the same plane. You can also copy-paste the wall’s coordinates to the paint stroke layer to match them up.

Most likely you are exceeded the capability of your GPU. Try first rendering out to ProRes, then render that movie to .h624.

Note that the group of PSD layers defaults to fixed resolution – you can tell this by the box around the icon in the Layers tab. Unchecking fixed resolution in the Inspector will likely fix your problem.

If it’s a bug, then it should be reproducible – like Steven said, it would be great if you could post the project to test. In the meantime, have you tried trashing your prefs?

    1) Quit Motion.
    2) Navigate to User/Library/Preferences.
    3) Locate com.apple.motion.plist and delete it.
