  • Creating a motion path to follow a write-on behavior

This feels like it should be obvious, but I’m having brain lock.

I’m using the ‘write on’ effect to draw an outline around a block of text and I’m trying to create a burning fuse effect, and I want my sparkly particle emitter to follow the head of the write on behavior. Is there an easy ‘match move’ behavior that will do this, or do I have to do it the old-fashioned way by animating it by hand?

Assuming your write-on effect is using a bezier shape as the path to follow, just apply a motion path behavior to the emitter and use the same shape as the source.

Thanks, Mark. Just finished working through your Motion 4 book, by the way… that’s why this really feels like some idiotic brain lock!

Is there a way to copy the bezier shape from the object to the bezier shape of the motion path? I was looking for one of those ‘wells’ to drag the shape into, but couldn’t find. All the ‘motion path’ behavior offers is a drop down menu.

When you apply the motion path behavior to the emitter, in the Inspector, change the path to Shape, then you’ll see the well to drag your shape into.

Bingo! I knew it was something obviously simple like that. Thanks!
