I bought FCPXTRA as I am embarking on a Doc with lots of material that needs to be ” bagged and tagged”.

I have to admit that after following the installation instructions I am a bit baffled by the behavior of this service. No matter what I do, none of the services will land the cursor in the notes field and start dictating services. It seems like I am close to that but the plug in still doesn’t work correctly.

Does anyone know how to contact the developer because maybe there is something I have overlooked that will sort this out for me. I feel like I am close to having this plug in work the way it should, and I can see that dictation services will speed up the organizational process in my case.

FCP Xtra, Close but no Cigar- yet.

Is it just me or is the link in the first post a 404?

  • I didn’t completely understand your post before I posted an answer. I don’t understand your problem at all. I have seen weird digi artifacts that you document when transferring camera files via a card reader that was failing, but not directly from an iPhone to computer,,,,

Likewise I pulled the trigger on a 5K iMac last week with the same specs 4 ghz i7 and the better GPU. This I mac is a really sweet machine…. and I’m about to start hammering on it with a hefty doc project using lots of different formats and codec. Here we go….

  • I work with Canon XF from C 300 all the time . I wouldn’t bother converting to pro res HQ . Its sort of a wasted step depending on what you are doing. I work natively with the Canon files and save the space, then output as pro res or what ever flavor I need at the out put stage.

April 17, 2015 at 12:13 pm in reply to: Long time editor’s frustration with FCPX

Interface preferences are such personal things. I have a hard time looking at Adobe interfaces because they are so detailed and cluttered to me. FCPX is much more comfortable for me to look at and the app does what I want it to do, so I am happy. Qualifier: Editing is not my primary activity by a long shot, so maybe some things haven’t had a chance to get under my skin yet.
The nomenclature shift with FCPX was sort of a pain and I still find myself explaining it to my spouse who is quite a good editor with years of legacy work behind her. Once she has a library set up, none of it matters to her, as she is off to work. The word event was a bit troublesome for me, as in ‘event photographer’ but I think of events as things that happened on certain days and since I already tended to organize material by calendar date anyway, that wan’t much trouble for me in the end.
The reason why I continue with X is because I love how so many of the mouse clicky things in Legacy were squeezed out , simplified so that now I feel like the editing process lets me focus more on what I want to do as editor.

I needed to do an upgrade to latest Yosemite and repair permissions from recovery partition and then everything came together. Prior to that I was in beach ball land every time I wanted to save a still from the browser or time line. After permisions repair and yosemite update no more beach balls.

Did a recovery partition permission repair and everything is back up to speed . I had to update to 10.10.3, then permission repair and now I’m rolling.

“Save Current frame” from and HD time line to png or tiff takes 4 ever and frequently saves blank frames.
