An expedition I work by days and so footage from each day is its own event and then from there I break out types of things – scenes – b roll what have you with keywords and then comments . The common language of the expedition revolves around dates and times and places so having an event for each day of shooting makes the most sense for me .

I’m on 10.3.1 and if I select a group of clips that are key worded or favorites, which is to say they have disclosure triangles, and option right arrow, all dislosure triangles are opened, option left arrow closes all.

depending on the content of the source video ( if the cut is really kinetic with lots of crazy graphics your mileage may vary) I tend to Share with the Apple devices 1080 or 720 preset in the share section. I ‘ve had very few complaints with these presets.

The video looks to me like many shots were made on prime lenses shooting f1.4 – 1.8. Its one of the only ways you get relatively wide shots, yet with a sharp foreground and soft focus background. Going by how much depth of field there is on some of the faces ( not much) the shooting style was pretty close to wide open. With a moving subject or camera one is riding the razor edge of focus with the risk of being out of focus on a key face or expression being pretty high.
So think Canon 24mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.2, not completely wide open but definitely more open than 2.0
The 135 soft focus lens while an idea wouldn’t be of any use with most of the compositions in the sample video.

If I am importing footage from camera cards, I get the option to eject the card after import which I can do, sometimes with a similar result – the card is ejected and I get the OS warning.. I n the case of hard drives I suppose the aim is to prevent some one from accidentally ejecting the dive that contains the library while the app is open thus prevent the app from having access to the library. Seems like a good idea, in a safety net sort of way, however its annoying to have to continiuosly quit the app just to switch drives. Since I am imposrting from camera cards with complete file structures that are located on the hard drive which is my import source, it would be cool if FCPX recognized the media source as a camera card and treated it the same way as compact flash card, so it could be ejected.

I own a mini that is a 4 core i7 CPU. It seems like there certainly in a case for form factor like the mini that has some processing power and takes up very little space. Connect monitors and keyboards that suit you and away you go.

I would use quickview except that I am looking through piles of P2 volumes (mxf – avc Intra) so quick view is of no use . There is that P2 viewer app P2CMS which I found that might be of some help. I shot all this material 6 years ago back when avc intra was about the best in camera codec available, and have been out of the P2 loop since then.

I have plenty of ports, its just that I am using a drive dock pulling media off archived bare drives, hence the need to swap drives. Gosh I wish they ( apple ) would fix this issue.
