My spouse is the creative director in the communications dept for our city. So lots of shooting, editing After Effects work,etc. The IT dept still thinks all city agencies just work with text files, spreadsheets, the occasional photograph. She asked for a 48 TB raid for back up purposes and IT was like “wha….?” Her Dept got a LTO 7 for Archival of material, but of course it took IT 7 months to get the LTO 7 tapes to her office.
Isn’t it ironic that in the day of rapid technological change driven in large part by information technologies that the IT departments seem to be stuck in the horse and buggy era of IT? -

+1 to Simon Says. I had to caption something recently and tossed the transcription file to Simon, got a quick & accurate transcript, exported as .srt and popped into my X project. Couldn’t be more simple than that.

With apps such as Autopilot and Litchi, you can program quite complex flight paths and they are repeatable. I would not call them MOCO in the sky, however flight paths with either of those apps are easily repeatable and since drone shots don’t require the precision of MOCO shooting a close up of some one’s iris, they are close enough to aerial MOCO for me.

I’ve pulled Panasonic DVC Pro files back from oblivion with some metadata editing in the file header. I have no idea if that works in your case but it might be a clue as to where to look. If you can compare metadata headers between similar files that play correctly and the ones that do not, you might find a route.

While not an answer to your question, I have noticed that when recording VO while using X( usb audio from mix pre 6 with a Sanken mic) that no matter how I try to boost audio levels with the mixer, the program always seems to have its thumb on the scales and will prevent recording audio that comes any where near 0 level . Seems like x has a built in limiter that is buried somewhere and inaccessible.
X will allow you to put normally recorded audio in the time line and stack gain on it till it starts to clip, but its dead set against you recording it that way.
I could be that you are seeing a similar version of this with the level difference between browser and time line. -
I have LTO tapes that are about 6 years old – I’ve stored them in a box over the years at room temp with zero issues restoring files, X libraries, whatever. If you go this route, keep in mind that LTO is great for bulk files, large video files etc. If you are archiving stills, you’ll want to zip them into folders and back up the zipped folders. Its much faster to restore a zipped folder than one that is not zipped.
I use some software called Pre Roll Post as my archive- retrieve software. This app backs up files, retrieves files, lets you virtually browse your back up library offline, does verified checksum backups among other things. Its possible to make do without it, but PRP really does do a great job of handling the backup- retrieval process.

I’d do the import with the thunderbolt to firewire adapter. You get transport control over fire wire which will be useful once you get in the thick of transfers.
