[Igor] “The only draw back is you have to capture outside of Premiere Pro, and without batch lists.”

Hi Igor, thanks for the reply

Yep, that’s rather a huge drawback for me. My clients often want something from last year, and without an ability to recapture, it is of no use to me… so it would be great to have this implemented in PP2. I dont know if that is for BM to write or for Adobe to enable, but from what you say, if it can capture this codec with an AVI extention, it may be up to Adobe?

[Adam Levine] “It is not a codec created by BM, perhaps I was unclear. This is part of QT and has been for years. Any QT-based app can use it.”

    gotcha,
    ok…
in that case it would be very nice if BM WROTE a MJPEG codec to capture RT in WinXP… very nice indeed.
    thanks

    [Igor]
You can capture to Photo JPEG on a PC with Decklink in quicktime thru Decklink capture utility.”

Thanks for the explanation igor… I would like to know from BlackMagic why they created the codec for MOV only, why not a MJPEG codec for PC too?

February 16, 2006 at 4:01 pm in reply to: Axio LE

    Hello there

For me, I love the way Axio has a compressed codec available so you can capture very efficiently for a laptop or at very hiqh quality while saving hugely on disk space and throughput requirements.

If Decklink get their act together and offer a JPEG or MPEG2 variable compressed video option for PC it would definitely be my system of choice… at the moment Axio is the only one to offer that as far as I know.

Why do Decklink offer JPEG video for Mac and not PC?

Hmmm, maybe Steve Jobs paying somebody for exclusivity again? (like he did with the original Targa3000 card)

    Hi guys,
yeah, thinking of DV quality and knowing that is 25 gives me an idea… thanks. I’m a bit disappointed it does not go lower than 25 though, I would prefer to offline at 10 then online at 50 or 100.

Thanks for doing the maths Dave, I am suprised DV is so low Dave, I thought (doing it another way) being 1:5, DV would be about 200kbf given one frame is about 1mb…

I was at a video expo today and there was massive interest around the Adobe booth, good to see.

    Till later,

[David Cherniack] “The intermediate level of compression in sd and hd is mpeg2 iframe where you can set the bit rate 25-100 mbs in SD and 50-300 mbs in hd”

    hmmm mbs…
    megabits?
er, so any idea what those bitrates are approx in kbf?
what’s the quality like compared to mjpeg?
I see you can playback digisuite files, but not capture mjpeg.
For me this is still a bit of a frustrating limitation of PP or at least the cards that support it.

How are you liking your Axio?

[alex udell] “So if I move the video portion to V2, then the corresponding audio is supposed to move to A2 right?”

    hey alex, howya doing mate?
i dont have my pp at the moment, but i would imagine (not sure) that targetting the audio track you want it to go to might help – if it does not, it SHOULD!

    hope that works.
other (irritating) work-around would be to lock the track you DONT want it to go to, but that’s an extra step.

Dont be inauthentic Carl, you are not sorry at all.

    Well spoken Craig!

I have used PP2 a lot, do not use the invisible layer effect (or have not had a need to use it yet) and think there is plenty in PP2 to get excited about. To say “shame on adobe” because you (carl) misunderstand what the feature actually is, and because you are disappointed that this one feature is not what you want, is both illogical and childish.

So please stop your petulant rant Carl, it is irritating to the grown-ups.
