why dont you just export a Quicktime using the Animation codec. That is very high quality and will definitely work with Sorenson.

perry, to make it smooth, i would suggest scanning the film strip with a scanner and saving a long still image which you could repeat if necessary.
this is probably more a job for AE than PP, i would not like to be doing much serious compositing with PP… but if you scan a still and move it in PP, you will not have a problem with the motion because it will be accurate, consistent and you can copy and paste the motion from one clip to another and get the motion exact.

  • There’s nothing wrong with healthy debate Brett, but hostility can sometimes happen when you tell people to get with “THE” programme… it disrespects those who have different needs from yours.

I have been slowly moving from Discreet Edit to Premier Pro, but have only used PP when it’s a DV project since I have had no hardware to input anything else. Most of our projects are Component analogue, but I do not need (or want) uncompressed video. Having a good quality compressed codec to capture component for use with PP is exactly what I was looking for. I would prefer it if it had 50kbs MPEG for SD and was 720p capable, just in case some client needed that, but at this point, none have asked for HD and 25mbs is ok.

I see this card as a baby axio, and if and when work warrants an HD purchase, the full axio would work well as the finishing station while the rtx2 would be good as the “offline editing” station.

  • brett, you problably know what your needs are, but dont assume to know what other’s needs are.

if, in two years, my current clients start wanting HD (unlikely) the money made from this card would have be an a tiny and worthwhile investment. In the meantime, computers will be faster, cheaper, and companies like decklink will offer a product that I would consider, ie one with a scaleable codec to capture and output.

  • Steve,

many of us do not have any need for HD, so having a card which has component, composite, yc, firewire IO as well as a scaleable compression codec which is better at best Q setting than DV quality, is GREAT news.

$2000 is well worth it IMO. I will almost certainly buy it as my first hardware card for Premier Pro v2.

    till later

Having been a tester for PP, I can only say I am impressed by the engineers and how they actually DO listen and continue to make substantial changes.

I’m not sure what your rant is about, but I would definitely not call the team slovenly, or the product a waste of time, in fact I only wish I had used v2.0 in my last project because my workplace use Discreet Edit 6.5 and I would have done this project much faster on PP.

I like it a whole lot and am working to get my boss to shift over from Edit to PP, with or without Axio.

please dont ask me any questions about the beta cycle. I could tell you but then my russian wife would have to kill you.

[Shane Chadder] ” We are all digital in the suites so I don’t need Axios i/o abilities either.”

    hi shane

yep, i guess for your situation it would make sense to spend the money you save not buying axio on a very good box or three!

for us, our source is anything from vhs and dvd or mpeg1 and jpeg stills to uncompressed, dv and betacam sp… so a varied IO is important, and since we are not in broadcast, uncompressed is “nice” but overkill.

also PP is coming along, they are not deaf over there…

    catch you later

[mactrix] “Why not pay a little extra for a Mac? ;-))”

    Hello,

    For a number of reasons…

    1/ PC’s are faster
2/ I dont like steve jobs and wouldnt want to support him
3/ I already have a lot of PC software, like PP2 very much and would not want to buy more software or have to deal with PC>Mac conversion issues

I would be prepared to suffer 3/ if PP2 was written for Linux, because I am no fan of Bill Gates either.

If I could justify the cost personally, an Axio system would be first choice, but for the moment my work are moving from Discreet Edit to Axio.

[Igor] “Buy a cheapest BMD board that works for your workflow and put it in some Xeon machine and give it a try in uncompressed. For a start there is no need for raid.”

    Hi Igor,

    Thanks for the tips…
Do you mean you can do HD off a single drive?

    Hello Luke,

    thanks for the respose…

I would definitely be interested in doing whatever it takes to get a compressed HD and SD codec for Decklink on APP. Even pay extra for a codec.

I have been eyeing your cards for a while, but within a few months I will be buying a Premier Pro based system, and would LOVE to get a Decklink card, but it is not going to happen if there is no low>>>high bitrate compression codec to capture to with timecode… I am sure there are many PP and other PC NLE users who would also find a compressed codec massively useful, so please do more than just being “very interested” in it! 😉

    Thanks,

    Mark Palmos
