thankfully with firefox (on a mac, but not PC) you can keep the options window open and still browse, so its easier to toggle the javascript quickly.

Im not sure where you think i misunderstood you *again*.

All I am saying is that AFAIK all that BT do is to provide physical pipelines to dozens of ISP providers, and these providers may or may not apply spam, java, whatever filters.

My curiosity is piqued, perhaps i should call BT and ask them about filtering all java coming in and out of the UK… they are the biggest telecoms company in the world, it shouldnt be too hard to get a quick answer, right?

i must say, it sounds truly unbelievable that BT would have any filtering at all. My guess is you are right, since its unlikely you are mistaken, but its still hard to believe.

BT are the owners of the pipelines which all our net stuff travels, but I would be astonished if BT is legally allowed to impose any sort of filtering on a Nationwide level… it just seems contrary to freedom of information and civil liberties which people in britain hold their government to at a very high standard (compared to the US that is! ;-)) Over here, the brits are adamant in opposition to being forced to carrying any identity, something you guys in the usa have had to do for a long time.

i will ask my IT guys, im sure they would have come up against it since there are 200 people here. Maybe its time for a BT petition, get some monks, im ready…

it is javascript… disable it in your browser prefs and it will be as fast as it used to be.
i hope that is fixed soon, javascript is a necessity for many sites.

I hope I’m remembering what I was doing that didnt work as expected… i immediately went to a plan B, and had a very busy day, so will find a moment to try replicate it tomorrow.

as far as you know, however, should any number of layers with alpha channels and disolves etc, work?

Hey David, and thanks Tom,
yep, exporting to Compressor from FCP.
Going fast it renders several frames per second, going slowly, about 26 secs per frame…

I did try export a MOV file first, and that also seemed like it was taking ages, so thats when I tried mpeg.

tomorrow i will be doing some more renders, so will check out for any patterns.

one more thing
I have just force quit, and FCP shows in red saying “not responding” but Compressor is not in red, and after I killed FCP, I could quit compressor normally.

any clues?

hey david, wmv codecs are free… but looking at microsoft’s site, i dont see SDK available for macos, which i guess means flip4mac have written their own, and it wouldnt be a matter of mac sticking their heads in the sand on that one, but rather that there isnt an SDK freely available.

my anythingbutipod stance stands however 😉

it just amazes me apple can be so arrogant.
go to compressor and you would think quicktime was the only thing on the planet.
im just used to premier, where you can do every codec i know, including all QT, AVI incl Xvid, divx etc, FLA, Real, WMV, MPEG1, 2, 4 etc… Why should fcp require plugins to do absolutely basic things like wmv?

The same kind of closed-shop thing happens with iPod TTouch. Nice machine, but you are FORCED to have Quicktime, FORCED to have iTunes just to be able to load MP3 files.

i guess im used to a more open environmentt… (and this computer keeps typing double letters, despite keyboard repeat delay set really slow)
