I suspect why you have not found any info on this is because the clips were never MOV files in the first place!
It is Apple that has to put them i a MOV wrapper so FCP can see them!
in an ideal world, Apple would be a LOT better at seeing non Apple file formats like WMV MPEG mp4 etc…

Actually the problem is sorted for me.
If you put the BPAV folder INSIDE ANOTHER folder, then get the transfer
utility to “see” that new folder, it will recognize the footage inside the
BPAV folder inside it.

it sounds very interesting, but not really cheaper than getting say a pair of maxx evo HD–4TB’s and using a gigiabit ethernet for basic copying files over.

presumably one cannot edit with each other’s ProRes HD media over a gigabit ethernet, right? Isnt that what bob zelin’s Tiger Technologies Meta LAN is for, so one can use a regular network, but have remote disks mount locally so no need to deal with unresponsive protocols.

was that 5grad for the vshare?
it seems the others are not really for editing.
i think we will go the separate drive for the two workstations route…

now its a question of whether to get a SATA controllser card with 4 or 8 channels, and have a bunch of 1m cables coming out of the macpro to a home made raid5 box (cheapest and fastest) or a controller card with a single 2m esata cable going to a raid5 box and have all those drives come off one controller (slower but less messy and would have a guarantee on a single product if it fails.

im not sure of any other alternatives given we want raid5.

well i reck by the end of nab2008 we will probably have bought something, the budgets are being worked on right now, thats what I’m helping them with, but i will do a bit more research. Otherwise it looks like gigabit ethernet and two separate raids.

mpeg1 is the most universal, but poor quality. Anything better requires some codec which some systems might or might not have…

are most pc or mac users?
if mac, id go h264 quicktime and if pc id go wmv
i prefer wmv look-wise, when we have done both formats for an end user, the wmv looks a bit better – particularly colour-wise.
