So what am I doing wrong?

I have ElCap with the Sony SxS Drivers 2.0.0.06260 as well.

But I’m barely getting 1x upload speed. 12 minute clip in 12 minutes. 🙁

September 4, 2015 at 9:10 pm in reply to: Disappearing Roles

I don’t think so. I use FCPX at work every day, and I use one library that I add and remove events to and from. When I get a new edit, I import the material into a new event in my work library, and create a new project to start editing. Sometimes the roles are still there, and other times they are not. Sometimes only one is there, and the others are not.

It’s a very small thing, but it annoys me every time I start a new project and the roles aren’t there.

WHAT! I didn’t need to buy a new laptop??

I’m actually glad it’s not just me. And I’m glad I upgraded my mbp.

I actually heard back from Apple on this, so I’m sure they’ll get to the bottom of it.

I wouldn’t say that Robin. I reinstalled my old spinning hard drive that came with the mac, and I had the exact same problem.

Apple responded to my feedback and I sent them crash info.

Either I have something on my system that’s causing it to crash, or there are certain configurations that give it problems.

No matter, because I used it as an excuse to upgrade my computer. I was just wondering if anyone else had any issues with it. I understand the optical flow has changed from the previous version.

I did that, a couple of times. I suspect it’s my internal ssd. I finally tried re-installing Yosemite on it. After 90 min of installing, it tried to boot and gave me an endless succession of kernel panics.

I’m installing Yosemite in my old internal spinning drive and I’m seriously looking at a tricked out late 2013 mbp from macmall. $2500 for 16gb ram and 1tb solid state memory.

    Thanks Oliver and Noah,

I’m afraid the Flanders and TV Logic will be out of our price range.

The Eizo could be more within our price range, about $1500, unless I have a good argument why we should spend more.

We shoot 1080i, so the 4k is unnecessary. Do you have experience with the Eizo Noah?

February 11, 2015 at 3:52 pm in reply to: Multi-track mxf export?

Yes, I need 4 discrete stem tracks. Our system at work will make quick work of importing an mxf, but a 4 channel quicktime movie will take a bit longer, so I still don’t have the perfect solution, but I can get it done, even with the extra steps. Thanks again.

I was afraid of that. I guess there’s no way to create a virtual clip, or compound clip that has the properties of separate tracks. Perhaps in the future they will establish a way to designate tracks through roles before the export.

For example, in FCP7, I think I could create a multi channel sequence (it could have 8 tracks, but 4 channels), then nesting that in another sequence it would act like a clip that had multiple channels.

I’ll live with the two-step process.

I guess I’ll need to do an experiment to see if it’s better to export pro-res out of my timeline, then use compressor to create my xdccm 35 mxf, or export a xdccm 35 clip into compressor. I wonder if compressor would go through a transcode even if it’s the desired codec when it starts.

    Thanks Jeremy.

February 2, 2015 at 10:07 am in reply to: Compound clips, fixed length

You need to step out of the clip and back into your timeline, and extend it manually. Pretty easy to do.

It makes sense that you can’t change the length of the clip by stepping in and extending clips inside the compound clip.

Maybe a future version will allow you to change the “play length” while you’re inside the compound.

December 13, 2014 at 5:54 am in reply to: MXF extreme sluggishness

No other mxf software on my computer.

I’ll keep doing experiments with the native mxf files.

I find that there seem to be activities that FCPX does under the surface that don’t show up in the background processes. Occasionally my fans will kick in like the app is doing something in the background, even though the background process indicator shows it’s resting at 100% done.

Then when I close the app, I’ll get a warning that background processes are underway, even though there’s no indication of anything running in the background.

Perhaps this is some extension of that issue.

I’ll keep experimenting, since no one else is having any issues with the native mxf files.
