I’m going to try to avoid that for now since there’s 2 hours of media in the browser.
I’ve restarted the app and the computer a couple of times and I’ve got it rendering now. It seems to play fine when it’s rendered to prores.
It’s confounding to me however that playback would flash, then completely disappear, and stay gone, even if I go to another project I’ve had absolutely no trouble with.

I don’t know if anyone else suggested this, but if you can open the clip in quicktime x, you can use the trim function “command T” to created a “trimmed” segment of the clip, then save that as a new clip to import into FCPX.

September 4, 2016 at 3:54 pm in reply to: Finding the couple of files not on the project drive.Ah… I knew I couldn’t eject my boot drive, but I didn’t think of looking for the remaining media. Good thinking.
Seems like in a big pool of metadata, there ought to be a way to search for a media drive, or even to show me only offline or online clips.
Maybe the next upgrade.
Thanks.

September 3, 2016 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Opening clips in timeline isn’t showing me separate audio tracksThanks for all of the ideas.
Jeremy gave me the best idea. Use a delay filter. I can easily add the delay filter to the channel that doesn’t have the delay from the wireless mics.
This is so easy. Wish I would’ve thought of it. And how cool is FCPX, which gives us the post-effect waveforms, that I can adjust my delay on one channel, and see the waveforms slide around to try to match them.
Ultimately, the curious thing for me about FCPX, is how when you opened the clip in timeline view, or broke apart the elements, the audio channels would present as the same format as when they were imported. Regardless of how I would change the channel configuration, stepping into the timeline view of the clip gives me either one or two channels of audio depending on how it originally imported.
Thankfully, I can now just change the channel configuration to dual mono, expand the components in the timeline and add the delay effect. No need to break apart clips. No need to step into the clip to slide one of the channels.
FYI: I purchased the Sennheiser ATX microphones. It’s newer technology. It’s so easy to set up. The form factor of the receiver is brilliant for my small sony hdv camera. Adding the delay to the non-wireless tracks is a very small chore I’ll need to perform only when I need to mix both the wireless and non-wireless source, and I’ll hear the problem and know how to fix it.
Thanks! And Jeremy, I owe you a beer or something.

Yes… when I set the clip to dual mono, it acts like dual mono when I’m editing. When I expand the audio components, I can see two separate audio channels, however when I use “open in timeline” or “break apart clip items” it shows one single audio channel that seems to be stereo.
I think this is tied into however the clip is originally brought in. I think if it is identified as stereo when originally imported into FCPX, that no matter how I try to change the interpretation in the audio properties panel, at the root it’s still acting as a stereo clip.
Again, in the timeline, I can change the interpretation to dual mono, and it acts like that, but if I step into the timeline view, or break apart clip items, I get a single audio track with two channels.
Try it. Take a clip that imports as stereo, re-assign it to dual mono, and see what happens when you step into the clip.
Is there a way to force FCPX to interpret the two audio channels as dual mono when you import? I assumed that final cut listened to the audio and decided for itself if it was stereo or dual mono, and it might be wrong as much as it’s right.

If you’re happy doing this in your timeline, you can rename the clips there in the inspector ⌘4 then type in the box.
I’ve also tried attaching a text clip, disabling it with the v key so it doesn’t show up on the screen, but I can see the name, and changing the name of that.
I’ve also used markers. These can be added in the event browser, and will stay with the clip when you move it to the timeline. They show up in the timeline index, and you can even search them.

I’m having this exact same problem. With HDMI monitor hooked up, I try to select “Show Events on Second Display”. It’s not greyed out, it lets me select it, but nothing happens.
If I drag my FCPX window to the second display (the HDMI monitor), now when I select the “Show Events on 2nd Display”, the events show up on my MBP.
I can use my display preferences to make the HDMI monitor the main display. Now when the FCPX window is on the HDMI monitor, nothing happens when I try to display events on the second display, but when I move my FCPX window to the MBP, which is now the second display, it WILL let me use the HDMI monitor as the second display.
What gives? It worked normally earlier today, but now it’s just doing this twisted version of how it should work.
Doing the displays as separate spaces in mission control seems to do nothing.
This is frustrating.

Thanks Nate…
Just installed it, and it’s all good.
I’m back at the speedy ingest speeds for my card.
I love it when things work.

No. When I went to Yosemite, I did a clean install, but I didn’t do a clean install of El Capitan.

I submitted a post to Sony’s support site and received the following email:
Dear Mr. Morache,
Unfortunately Sony has not released any updated drivers for OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) and currently has no support for El Capitan. We are working on getting the updates released as soon as possible. Expected release is mid to end of November.

So it looks like they’re working on it, meanwhile it’s super slow ingest on my MBP.
That’ll teach me to be an early adopter.
