I’m seeing nothing in the viewer. It’s black.

    Anyone experience something like this.

So while I’m editing, everything is working fine, then playback in the viewer starts flashing, only in the viewer window. My retina screen on my MBP is working fine. I can hear the audio just fine, however there is nothing in the viewer.

I see nothing, no matter if I’m trying to play the timeline, or a clip in the browser.

If I open the event window, it’s still black.

If I open up the scopes, they show nothing, as if I was on a gap clip.

Closing and re-opening FCPX brings it back, but after editing a bit more, it happens again.

    Thanks so much.
I’m wondering if somehow the codec of the clips is messing things up. It’s a simple h264 mp4 clip, 720p in a 1080i timeline, and that’s never ever messed me up before.

Now this is interesting… I’ve rendered about 10 seconds of the timeline. That’s playing fine, while the rest of the timeline is black.

I think this edit is cursed. I’m nearly done, then I’ll purge it from my computer and my life.

Try optimizing it to ProRes. Might be a clip with some issues.

    Thanks Noah.

I’m going to try to avoid that for now since there’s 2 hours of media in the browser.

I’ve restarted the app and the computer a couple of times and I’ve got it rendering now. It seems to play fine when it’s rendered to prores.

It’s confounding to me however that playback would flash, then completely disappear, and stay gone, even if I go to another project I’ve had absolutely no trouble with.
