I’m a sucker for renaming my clips so that I can SEE what the clip is about on the Timeline — I literally like to see ex. “where he talks about XYZ” on the Timeline when I’m editing.

I’ve got a bunch of multicam interviews ready to cut and the “rename clip” option isn’t available to me.

I’m wondering how people keep tabs on the specific quotes within their interviews for editing? Am I crazy to want to SEE what the clip is about when I’m looking at the timeline?

You mean per entire clip or just per line of dialogue?

If you’re happy doing this in your timeline, you can rename the clips there in the inspector ⌘4 then type in the box.

I’ve also tried attaching a text clip, disabling it with the v key so it doesn’t show up on the screen, but I can see the name, and changing the name of that.

I’ve also used markers. These can be added in the event browser, and will stay with the clip when you move it to the timeline. They show up in the timeline index, and you can even search them.

    Hi Noah –

Per edited clip — which is probably a line or two.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks — I often find that renaming in the inspector renames the entire clip — versus being able to pull out parts. I’ll better look into markers.
