Hey guys….

Before you all get into a tizzy here. XDCAM HD 25 mbit is nothing more than HDV. Its the exact same format as an HDV camcorder will record, therefore, Quicktime and FCP will recognize it as HDV instead of XDCAM HD.

Its OK, guys…. the XDCAM HD cameras record exactly the same as the HDV units in the SP (25 mbit) mode.

The idea isn’t to just sell Shane’s DVD but to let you know that it has all of the info you need so that you can determine what workflow is going to work best for you.

I’ll admit that I haven’t uploaded a video in the last month but I wouldn’t be surprise at all with all of the problems Apple had with the MobileMe service change over and now, the new iPhones with the 3G network.

I’m sure that Apple is working on it as we speak. As for Walter’s solution… It sure sounds good but the software is $895. A little steep for my company at the moment.

Hey…

If you already have MobileMe, then just use iWeb to create a web page and embed your video on a web page. Works great for us. Just make sure that you set your video to AutoPlay.

Sounds nice, but it can’t replace all of the functions of a keyboard for details such as logging media. While editing… keyboard shortcuts aren’t a problem for me, its the logging that’s doing the most damage to my wrists.

I found my answer myself…

When updating to the 6.0 driver, I had to uninstall the 5.1 NDD driver, restart the Mac, install the 6.0 driver, restart the Mac, then update the firmware and restart for a final time. After all of this, the Mac started fine and is working properly so far…

A very good option to look at is dvGarage’s dvMatte Pro for FCP.

It’s relatively easy to use and claims to have fast renders. I personally haven’t used it. We don’t do green screen here yet… but if we did I would seriously consider this program. Download the demo and see for yourself.

I’m going to add to this list of bugs…

I upgraded this morning to the 6.0 driver, thinking this is going to be awesome. Wrong! After the update and the firmware update, I no longer had video playing in my Canvas and Viewer windows at all. Neither would it play on my program monitor. All I would get on my program monitor is a still frame.

Nothing else changed and the video playback was set correctly. I am using the AJA Kona3: DVCProHD 1080i29.97 Easy setup.

I reverted back to the 5.1 drivers and earlier firmware and everything is fine again… AJA… Opps… I have to admit this disappoints me that AJA released this with issues. Its not like them to do this. Maybe 6.1 will fix this.

Two things for ya….

First, how did you capture your XDCAM IMX50 into DV, unless you use the deck like an HDV deck. I would suggest that you use the Sony Presets for XDCAM. This will solve your issue with breaks. DV is notorious for timecode issues, if its not setup properly.

Secondly, if all of your footage is XDCAM IMX50, then edit in XDCAM IMX50. Its really silly to dumb down your footage when the file sizes are very close.

I can see your frustration. Do you still have the XDCAM discs in hand? If you do, and I know you’re not going to like this BUT…. recapture everything in the Sony XDCAM IMX50 setup.
