Ok… but you’re missing what I’m saying. I guess I didn’t make myself clear. I’m editing on a 4×3 timeline and my footage is 16×9 AND I don’t want the letterbox look. Most of the footage is 4×3 but some of it is 16×9. I already know you can use the disort feature to make it fill the screen properly along with the aspect ratio box. But do you have time to contantly change these parameters for each and every 16×9 clip.

It very easy to use 16×9 on a 4×3 timeline but the reverse is very difficult. I’m just asking for something to help me save time. I know what I need and if I could program, I’d make my own plugin.

Try ProMax. They have a SATA option that has the capabilities of doing full HD video. I have the 2 TB setup. It comes with the SATA adapter and cables needed.

Ok…. that just gives me a letterboxed image again. I’m looking for the full screen center punch, not a letterboxed image. I want it to look like a standard 4×3 image. I know that I can do it using the distort tab under the motion tab, but that takes time which none of us really have.

BTW… where is the anamorphic checkbox under the Motion tab. Mine doesn’t have that option. I have it in the Browser window but not under the Motion tab.

It may be the order of your PCI cards in their slots. Switch the order of the Kona card with the SATA card. Try that.

Let ask you, how do you export to DVDSP using MPEG-2 in FCP 5? I have Final Cut Studio and I haven’t found an option to export in MPEG-2 for DVD.

I, too, am curoius about this. My company just purchased the Z1U cameras and I edit in SD video for the moment but we wanted to go HDV for the future to mix with HiDef down the road. I have noticed that working with HDV is great in itself but don’t mix it with anything else.

Thrang… it sounds as if you answered your own question. You’d be better off dumping to tape and recapturing in DV to create your DVD. You do know that you ca make a dup of your timeline that already has the markers, delete the video and audio, drop in your recaptured footage in the exact timecode and all your markers will still be there. A real time savings.

HDV is a whole different format – the thinking can not be the same as others. Its only compatible with itself.

I found my own answer and a SERIOUS BUG in FCP 5.0.2 If I go into the Distort tab and change my Lower Right from 243 to 240, everything looks perfect! All the other settings are -243 for Upper Left and Upper Right AND Lower Left is 243. Now that’s screwed up!

Yeah, I’m aware of that problem… But that’s not what I’m dealing with. Mine is a simple compression box of 50 percent scale and adjusted by even numbers to an area of the screen. De-interlacing doesn’t help and it’s not flickering. It just looks pixelated at times. Just take a piece of video and scale it to 50 percent, then render it. It looks pixelated.

I would have to agree. That was a disappointment for me, too. You would think that Sony would come up with a 24p version to gain supprot of the low budget small production houses. At least, Sony should have made it sort of work like the Canon and Panasonic DV cameras. I’m sure you are like the rest when I say that we are dissappointed in FCP 5.0 because we were told all of this stuff that it could do and it does but just barely. That was kinda a like a new sports car coming out on the market and finding out after you bought it that it only had a little 4 cylinder engine in it. Kinda dissappointing.
