I was just concerned that you may have had a graphics card like the high end Nvidia or the ATI X1900. With those you need a 16 lane slot.
Can I ask a question? Why are you looking at the Kona LSe? Budget constraints?
The reason I mention this… How about considering the LHe? That will give you the same inputs but with HD input for later. Personally, I think you would be much better off looking at the LHe series for your needs. The world is changing to HD in a real hurry and those that aren’t capable now are going to be left behind. It’s something to really consider.

What video cards do you get with each system?
I have the same as your system #1 with the exception of having an AJA Kona 3 card installed.
One word of caution… Make sure that your TerraBlock has the latest update (version 2.05) applied to it. It seems there was a problem with the 2.04 version and its DynaRAID software. I’m having to recapture footage since that because clips were way out of sync and timecodes got fouled up. Since the update, everything is fine.
As for your ATTO SCSI card… That is the only location to put it BUT I’m very sure that you are going to have some speed issues since that slot is only a one lane slot. That means if you plan to use this as data storage, fine… but if you want to edit from it, it will be problematic, at best.

I know this may sound silly… but what is your computer? Do you have a DL-DVD drive installed in it? If not, you might want to check on getting on OR if you feel like making the big jump maybe a Blu-Ray DVD writer, if there is one that will work on the Mac. I think you can get an upgrade drive for less than $100 for your Mac that is Dual Layer.

I agree with all of the above. I have your system already and have been using it. Now, I am using the TerraBlock as compared to the Cipirco system but they are essentially the same with minor differences.
Let me just say, I agree totally with Walter on the HDV discussion. I have seen the JVC and Sony side by side and JVC’s picture has lower resolution because the lens is rather inferior. In order for the JVC to compare, you’ll need the better lens which is another $10K to add to it. Besides, you are also comparing 720 to 1080 which there is a difference in the fine areas of the picture. Now, if you plan to shoot 24p… The JVC with the better lens will work fine. But give Sony a real close look. Sony is coming out with the HVR-V1U which is the newer smaller 24p version of the HVR-Z1U. Full 1080p24 is awesome to consider for around $5k.

I’m sorry, I have forgotten… Do you have the ATI X1900 XT on your MacPro, Walter?
I seem to be the one with all the issues these days. So, I’m trying my best to troubleshoot all of these headaches.
Funny thing though…. While editing today, some of my audio waveforms were coming back. I’m not getting a complete wavform through the whole clip but I’m getting most of it sometimes. Yeah, I know it sounds weird but I wonder if this is a memory issue since I do only have 2 gig as a max for right now.

Yeah, I tried that… I tried to delete the render files and restart FCP. Nothing.
No matter what I do on my MacPro, I still don’t get any audio waveforms to show up. Like I said before, I don’t have any of these problems on my PPC system.
APPLE…. Fix this, PLEASE…..

This is a new project that was started after the crossgrade. And its only occurring on my MacPro system, not on the PPC.
Oh yeah… I did try that and it still does it…
Now, I’m also noticing that the audio waveforms are missing. Makes it tought to edit to audio when you can’t see a wave form.
