  • Stable Configuration of Mac Pro, FCP, QuickTime, Kona, Celerity?

Posted by Ben Cheng on November 7, 2006 at 5:56 pm

    Hi All,

I understand from the threads below, there have some issues with running more than 2GB RAM & QuickTime 7.1.3.
Hope the users here can advice me on setting a stable configuration, with the following:

    – Mac OS X version?

    – QuickTime version?

    – ATTO FC42ES 2.4.1

    – FCP 5.1.2

    – Kona LS 3.2.0

Apart from the RAM riser position & the allocation of PCI slots, is there anything I should look out for?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

    Cheers,

oh, go plug all this stuff in. It will be outdated in 9 months anyway, so what do you have to lose ? (It all works fine). Run latest version of everything.

Well, I’m having some serious issues between the AJA Kona 3 and the ATTO Celerity FC-41ES. I’m getting dropped frames, loss of sync, pops and skips. And sometimes on the occassion, I lose my Kona card on startup. Then I have to remove the ATTO card, zap the PRAM and start the system. Then after all of this I can replace the ATTO card and everything runs fine.

I’v been in contact with ATTO and AJA about this and both are stumped.

OK now its my turn to ask the obvious questions

computer firmware updated, current kona drivers, 2gigs of RAM (or less)
run the expansion slot utility, no 3rd party codecs??

    Checked the fibre cables?

Let’s se… Firmware is updated. Kona 3.2 drivers installed (also occured with Kona 3.1 drivers). Using 2 gig of RAM with 5 more sitting on a shelf (tested thoroughly with Apple Hardware Test). Ran the Expansion Slot Utility and selected default as per AJA and ATTO’s instructions (Selection 2). No 3rd party codecs, other than the Flip4Mac WMV Studio Pro software. Fibre cables are new and check out great.

Yeah…. I’ve gotten every stumped on this one. I even got permission to use the ATTO beta driver, which didn’t even work in my machine so we had to uninstall and reinstall the 2.41 driver for the Celerity FC-41ES.

Gary, what fibre cards are you using? Do you have a new Mac Pro Dual 3.0? How about the graphics card? ATI X1900?

I’m trying everything…. I’m getting desperate to find a solution to this.

Atto FC42ES, MacPro 3Ghz, 6 gigs RAM, but I am running the Nvidia Quartro card

And you have a Kona 3 in Slot 3, right?

Hmmmm…… This is interesting. I’m starting to wonder if it has something to do with the graphics card – the ATI X1900

Wayne, we ran the ATTO 42ES with no problems for the three weeks we had the Fibre Channel hooked up to our Mac Pro and it’s running the ATI 1900 card. We’ll be getting a new Fibre Channel unit either later this month or next, but I don’t think it’s the ATI 1900.

I’m sure you have, but did you set up the PCI Expansion Slot application correctly to ensure the best performance for the ATTO card?

[Wayne Carey] “What setup do you suggest, Walter?”

The one that’s recommended by AJA in the Read Me file that comes with the Kona 3 drivers.
