Quick and painless it was! Another useful Boris tool explained (and more usefully than the one page of reference in the manual.)

Thank you very much for the info. Have a Merry Christmas!!

I’ve done it, too. Does that make it any more legal? (Sorry… sarcasm is a vehicle with no brakes.)

I do agree that the Secret Service will be your best option for information. http://www.secretservice.gov will link you to local office or an email address.

That being said, I’ve seen scores of stock photos of money from a variety of commercial sources. One could assume that something that public would not be illegal.

But you know what happens when you assume.

Ditto to Stephen – although in the mac you can select a track and hit Apple-D for a one-step duplication of the track and all attributes. Change the font, move the keyframes if needed, and away you go.

If you already have the text layers created and you just want to apply a filter or effect to all of them, create it in one text layer, then copy and paste to other tracks. You can also copy/paste individual or multiple keyframes (by shift-clicking) from one layer to another, as long as they are going into the same type of layer.

  • If you happen to have a field mixer that will not output to mic level, the Betacams can switch their input levels to line or mic.

Hiking boots, tent, sleeping bag, warm fire and cold beer. As often as possible.

Fresh air and God’s Ozark Mountains work wonders.

I learned a trick in a Photoshop seminar recently for a quick, cheap way to help with this all-too-common problem. Under the “Image” menu, select the “Image Size” option, then set the “Pixel Dimentions” selection to “Percent”. Set the percent to “110” and hit “OK”.

Apparently, by increasing the size of the document by only 10% at a time, Photoshop “fixes” the expanded pixels based on the adjacent pixels.

I set a function key to do this action, so now a simple keystroke is all it takes.

After explaining this method to another Photoshop user, I was told it wouldn’t work. But my personal experience showed that it does, and I’ll take results over theory most all of the time.

Hope this doesn’t come in too late to help you….. I’ve had to enlarge small photos and video stills all too often to move them around in AE, Boris, etc. and this has saved me many headaches.

October 11, 2005 at 3:10 pm in reply to: Filming food? (making it look good and tasty)

    Jason,

The best lighting I’ve used for food shots is very diffused and set up well off the camera line. I want shadows to show texture and depth of presentation, but I like soft, not harsh shadows.

I use a large softbank set off to one side for a key light (I start at about 45 degrees from camera line and adjust farther away as needed.) I’ll usually fill in the shadows with a reflector or a much smaller soft light, just enough to give definition in the shadows. A softened backlight, usually a small freznel with some diffusion, will provide some depth to the sandwich.

Also, use a fast shutter speed or ND filters to stop down your camera and shrink your depth of field so the sub will stand out against whatever is in the background. Camera diffusion also does wonders for food shots.

Make sure the client brings plenty of product (kept cool and away from the lights) to freshen up the “star” as the shoot goes on. I’m assuming you’re shooting video, and the heat from the lights will be pretty brutal on the food.

And as always, get some slick magazines featuring beautiful food shots to get ideas for your setup.

    Good luck!

September 26, 2005 at 7:50 pm in reply to: HELP! – Raid won’t mount

    Shawn,

I’ve had similar problems since I upgraded to this G5, (although my RAID doesn’t even show up in Disk Utility) and the only answer I ever got was to download the latest SCSI drivers for my ATTO card. The RAID still “disappears” on boot-up occasionally, but rebooting usually finds it. I keep steel-toe boots handy just in case.

Not a perfect answer, but the only one I have. Personally, I think there’s still some “issues” with OSX in this area.

    Best of luck.

I think you made the right choice. As you have read in this thread, preparing yourself (as opposed to expecting others to prepare you) for a multiple-day gig is time well spent. Personally, I would never walk into unfamiliar settings and expect to immediately perform well enough to satisfy myself or the person writing the check.

I also am with Seth and Charlie on making note of this time on your invoice. Letting your client know that your time, as well as your talents, has value can pay off long-term.

As a bonus, if the rate they quoted you (“…matched what I would charge as a day rate.”) is for each event, I can’t imagine a ball game of any kind that takes a whole day, even with pre-and post-event work.

    Enjoy the gigs!

I’ve only had this issue when attempting to paste multiple keyframes at a time, or a keyframe with a lot of different attributes. Are you attempting single keyframes or multiples? Also, what kind of track(s) are you working in? (Position, filter, etc.) How many atributes are contained within the keyframe? Since there’s been no responses so far, possibly a more detailed description of the problem will help figure it out.
