Follow up… I too have had great experience with Playback Pro. But I just bought some new Blackmagic “ultra studio” Mini Monitors, and was thinking about using their software “Media Express” for playback. It’s less flexible with formats and doesn’t have the features of PBP, but does anyone have any experience as to it’s reliability and suitability for the production environment?

    Thanks!!

No workflow headaches in moving projects between win and osx in premiere pro?

Well, most of my editors are more familiar with working on the mac. Performance is ultimately not as important as a smooth workflow.

“if we can get the little kinks worked out in our Mac / PC hybrid workflow”

Honestly, this is what I worry about most in an entirely mac shop. It’s great to buy a machine with awesome performance, but on the other hand if the performance gains are matched by workflow problems it’s not worth it.

Can you talk about your specific windows workflow problems? I’ve seen plugin and code issues, though I can’t say they are major.. but they do cause problems and slow down project exchanges.

Thanks for the link, helpful… It actually helps push me more toward the tower!

  • Boy did I leave something out… I’m a mac guy, but the new guy will be on windows 7…

I use Episode mainly these days, but I don’t need something that full featured for him since I’ll just set up a couple of presets and he’ll be good to go..

dvmatte pro studio… non-nodal. I was pleasantly surprised, really. I’m used to a 30 minute key process that still gives just adequate results. This was a breath of fresh air.

Ya, the reflecmedia is the LED light ring setup with the reflective backdrop. Again, my needs are probably simpler than most, but it works great for me.

I just had to pull a key on footage shot in Sony XDCAM-HD format, 1080p. I can’t believe how easy it was to pull the key using the plugin from DV Garage in FCP. I’m sure I’m a little easier to please than most… as this is just for web delivery, but the key is VERY clean to my eyes and took me about 5 minutes.

I don’t work for the company or own stock in them, I just own their product.

Oh, and the footage was shot using a reflecmedia setup, that probably matters…

Part of the problem is I didn’t read it… one of my employees purchased the credits.

It just seems like a bad business practice, and one that is illegal in many US states.

Anyway, thanks for letting me whine a little. Frankly, I won’t renew, I find it really bad form… just my opinion of course. But I’ve found some other resources that will work for me.
