Well— the easiest workaround is to just place the still pix on a secondary storyline so that’s what I’m doing from here on in.

Unless all my projects (60) are corrupt it’s unlikely a corrupt project. It doesn’t happen for every clip in a project. Most behave.

So– is it true that audio transitions will not Lift from Primary Storyline? If I just select the clip and not the transition the clip moves down to become a connected clip but the transition stays in the PS.

It seems that the ability to work with audio is hampered when it is a connected clip. FCPX was not allowing me to place a cross dissolve across to connected clips.

    thanks everyone, mark

These are location recordings back in the day of tape and digitized to AIFF.

I already tried dragging the clips- a blue border is left on the vacated space and as soon as you release the clips bounce back up to the Primary Storyline. Tried with and without the shift key.

Haven’t done the copy/paste try but this is happening on multiple projects I’ve done 5 projects and the issue has shown up on 4. The 5th one had no connecting clips.

thanks, again for thinking about this

Most of the connected audio clips were in the primary storyline and and the “Lift” command was successful. Here are a before and after screen shot when it didn’t work. Note the shot prior to the shot I’m trying to move has switched positions. I don’t want to even begin to try describe the mess that resulted when I tried to move the remaining audio clip in the storyline.

Thank you, Andy, that’s very generous of you. I’ll try to get to it this afternoon but I’m in the middle of the SXSW maelstrom here in Austin so…..

I mentioned in an earlier post that I was successful with the keyboard command selectively.

Yes, that would do it, but I’m trying to learn how this damn thing works. With persistence I was able to accomplish my task. I created substantial gaps between my problem child and his siblings on either side. And then with about three different steps including dragging and the keyboard command I won. But of course that workflow is a non starter. I have many of these to do so hopefully I’ll figure out in due time. Actually I do glimpse the brilliance in this App from time to time. I’m encouraged.

    Thanks, mark

thank you for your quick response. alas, I wish it worked everytime. I’m working with multiple “tracks”, so audio with connected audio clips. It does work for one simple clip of audio or even an audio clip with a connected clip as long as the connected clip does not overlap another separate audio clip. When the connected clip overlaps all hell breaks loose. 🙂 The connected audio clips seem to move randomly and even clips prior to the clip I’m trying to move fly out of their assigned position. I suspect I’m in search of a workaround.

    thanks, Tom.

I love the engineer proximity syndrome. After I posted I tried to re-arrange the columns and VIOLA- it worked. Hadn’t for two days. Re-launched FCPX and everything works as it should. Sorry to waste bandwidth but I’m sure if I hadn’t posted I’d still be dealing with it.
