audio on the primary storyline problem
Posted by Mark Coffey on March 13, 2012 at 9:22 pmI have many audio only projects. Now for review purposes I want to add a still. Most of the audio is on the primary storyline and I’m having trouble moving the audio down to make it a connected clip. On a few clips I was successful and a gap was left which I replaced with the still but for the most part the audio wants to stay on the primary storyline. I’ve tried both the position tool and the select tool.
thoughts?
thanks, mark

March 13, 2012 at 9:36 pmUse “Edit > Lift from Storyline” or option-command- up arrow. Works every time.

March 13, 2012 at 10:32 pmthank you for your quick response. alas, I wish it worked everytime. I’m working with multiple “tracks”, so audio with connected audio clips. It does work for one simple clip of audio or even an audio clip with a connected clip as long as the connected clip does not overlap another separate audio clip. When the connected clip overlaps all hell breaks loose. 🙂 The connected audio clips seem to move randomly and even clips prior to the clip I’m trying to move fly out of their assigned position. I suspect I’m in search of a workaround.

March 14, 2012 at 3:23 amYes, that would do it, but I’m trying to learn how this damn thing works. With persistence I was able to accomplish my task. I created substantial gaps between my problem child and his siblings on either side. And then with about three different steps including dragging and the keyboard command I won. But of course that workflow is a non starter. I have many of these to do so hopefully I’ll figure out in due time. Actually I do glimpse the brilliance in this App from time to time. I’m encouraged.

“T Payton mentioned in the first post in this thread the “Lift from storyline” command, which is the easiest way to move a clip from the primary, did this not work for you?

March 14, 2012 at 12:31 pmI mentioned in an earlier post that I was successful with the keyboard command selectively.

March 14, 2012 at 4:27 pmI think a couple of screenshots would be helpful because I have not had the issue you’re describing. Lift from Storyline works perfectly for me, so if it’s not for you, upload a pic before you try it, and after you try it so we can see what is happening and try to replicate it.

March 14, 2012 at 6:09 pmThank you, Andy, that’s very generous of you. I’ll try to get to it this afternoon but I’m in the middle of the SXSW maelstrom here in Austin so…..

March 14, 2012 at 9:34 pmMost of the connected audio clips were in the primary storyline and and the “Lift” command was successful. Here are a before and after screen shot when it didn’t work. Note the shot prior to the shot I’m trying to move has switched positions. I don’t want to even begin to try describe the mess that resulted when I tried to move the remaining audio clip in the storyline.
