Duplicate the layer. Add gaussian blur to the top layer (10-15 points), then set the top layer to overlay, soft light, screen or one of the others. I also like to add the tint effect (better to use BCC tritone if you have it) to warm up the colors. I then add an adjustement layer over top with levels to adjust to taste.

The best way I know how is to use the instant sex method that the Meyer’s wrote about in their book. Also, if you have the magic bullet, there are some presets that can be adjusted to give this type of effect.

If I read their system requirements on their website, then I would have to say that it wouldn’t work…..

January 17, 2007 at 2:33 pm in reply to: Need help/suggestions for camera move

How about seperating the text more from the bg in z-space so the camera has to move more, then moving the other images off on the x-axis so that the camera only catches them as they come into frame.

To give the impression of speed you could also try to add a little wiggle to the x and y of the camera creating a shaky type of movement. Add mucho motion blur and you should be set.

    Hope this helps

January 17, 2007 at 11:47 am in reply to: How do you position a displacement map?

To be able to position a displacement map you would need to precomp the map and make the position changes inside the precomp. The displacement map filter looks at the source image of the map and does not take into consideration transformations of the map.

I know that Nvidia released a driver for fx4000 SDI specifically for AE. Maybe check their website if the preferences in AE aren’t showing you the option you need.

Andrew Kramer’s DVD is excellent. It shows specific effects, but may be a little advanced for someone new to After Effects (I would still highly recommend purchasing it). Total training, whilst expensive is a very good training set. You could also buy one of the books by Trish and Chris Meyer…you will definately pick up quite a bit of info. Also, Aharon’s podcats are great as he teaches many skills from beginner to a little more advanced.
The bets resource that I am aware for expressions (Javascript) is Dan Ebbert’s website. He really knows his stuff and explains it really well on his website.

    Good luck,
