Hello, I’m new to AF, I just purchased 7.0.

I’ve searched these forums, but I think I need to ask this question anyway. What would you guys recommend as a good book/reading material to get familiar with AF?

I’m fairly familiar with Video/Audio editing, some 3D composting, but nothing as complex as AF. I’m pretty new to the Java Script that people refer to.

I would like to make good use of this tool, but so many tutorials are in an older version of AF.

Any good suggestions for Books or Websites, etc?

    Thanks!

Andrew Kramer’s DVD is excellent. It shows specific effects, but may be a little advanced for someone new to After Effects (I would still highly recommend purchasing it). Total training, whilst expensive is a very good training set. You could also buy one of the books by Trish and Chris Meyer…you will definately pick up quite a bit of info. Also, Aharon’s podcats are great as he teaches many skills from beginner to a little more advanced.
The bets resource that I am aware for expressions (Javascript) is Dan Ebbert’s website. He really knows his stuff and explains it really well on his website.

    Good luck,

    Mark

Chris & Trish Meyer’s books “Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects” Volume 1 and 2 are a great way to learn the program inside and out, if that’s your intention. To really get your’s money’s worth out of them though, you should go through both texts, start to finish, cover to cover. Right now their books cover the 6.5 version of After Effects, but they are still worth every penny. Andrew Kramer totally knows his stuff, so anything from him will be excellent, and he also has some good tutorials posted here on Creative Cow. The Meyer books are a serious time committment, but worth it if your goal is to master After Effects.
