I just said that beacuse it is same as master footage. It is much easier to confirm everything to oryginal material same as with film. Maybe there is different way, I do not argue but it would make sense to have same TC that you can compare to original footage from camera.

You need to apply Timecode Reader and NOT Generator from Video filters gallery. Timecode reader is the same tc what is on your P2 cards, tape or source material. Timecode generator is your timeline tc which is not what you need.

April 7, 2007 at 12:19 am in reply to: matching F and H

    Hi,

There is no scene files that will match 2 different cameras perfectly. Saying that I will also add that 2 Varicams H or F models if they will have the same values in scene files they will almost match. They are ussualy very, very close and most probably you won’t see difference with your eyes.
Version H of this camera has cleaner image in low light though.
To make it ideal you need vectoscope and waveform and most important engineer.
Scene file converter from AbelCine will edit, create or convert scene files from F to H or vice versa on Mac. Panasonic released converter for PC so when I worked at Abel I saw opportunity to help people using macs (most of us) and with my friend we made this software. It is free software and AbelCine can email it to you.

P2 Log Pro is great viewer for Mac. Otherwise you need to import in FCP in order to see footage. During import you can view it in lower resolution. Advantage of P2Log Pro is that you can view it in full resolution right away, rename clips, generate xml, repair clips and convert to QT in a quick way.
P2Genie is great, small, cheap application to transfer cards or just erase and eject card and this is a main reason I keep it. It is one click and costs 30 bucks.
Both applications are usefull and if you have FCP then you don’t need HDLog. P2Log Pro and FCP together will do everything.
In a short future you should be able to cut your workflow to 2 points if adapter from Duell System is out. Transfer of P2 cards will be much faster and yo can go straight to portable RAID.
In your situation I would set RAID to level 1 so automatically you have copy. If I am shooting for somebody else then I would copy that footage from RAID to another external drive (3rd copy). Otherwise, you already have backup with RAID.

    Hi John,

They have that curly expandable cable that is much more durable. Also they add more shrink tube on connector where it is weakest point. This way you can put Hytron with no problem, more strenght and flexibility.
Check it out. I am sure they will have it at NAB in their booth.

    Hi Dale,

May I recommend that next time you send your monitor to Abel Cine Tech and they will replace it for much better one and you won’t have that problem? Please call them and ask for details.

You can just press STOP on VCR/MCR control.

  • Hi Tony,

Although I never tried this yet, Greame Nattress has new plugins for FCP and one of them is G Time Lapse that looks like will do what you want.
Contact him and ask and post what you found out.

Article says 255 characters for clip name which is super long but it still looks like 31 characters is longest for FCP 5.1.4
