That’s the trick – DON’T maximize the screen – stretch it instead. It is the only way it works. Then, make sure you save your workspace settings for future projects.

If it’s 1.5 you may have run into the infamous memory leak problem (which USUALLY just shuts you down but . . .) anyway, try this – open your task manager and keep track of the amount of memory being used both by Premiere and by its temp file. I usually get sludginess when it passes a gig, then it usually fails at about 2 gigs (although I have had it climb as hih as 3.5 gigs and managed to get out in one piece). I have been told that this problem is more or less taken care of in 2.0 so that MIGHT offer some relief.

Unfortunately, if you are having problems because of this my only advice is to save often and to reboot after opening 2 projects (or opening a project twice in one session) that, at least6, saves loss of time and effort. If your page file (under virtul memory in system settings) is less than 2Gb you might want to increase its size, be aware, however, that I had more problems if I moved the page file off of the system drive.

Is this Pro 1.5 or 2.0? How big is your page file? Are you connected to a SAN or other shared storage? All jobs or just one and if just one is it big, does it have a lot of stills, anything unusual about it? Answering these questions will help get enough info for someone to take a crack at your problem.

Good one, I didn’t realize the video would come back if I did matchframe, that one will help a lot (assuming I remember it 😉

This only works if there is video left (not the situation I was talking about) if there is NO video on the TL associated with the audio is there a way to ge the video (that’s what I want)

I could, and I do . . . but the fact of the matter is that I think if audio and video are linked they should STAY that way – regardless of whether you choose to use one, the other or both. Besides, once you get up to 6-10 layers of video you end up spending half your time scrolling up and down to see all the tracks (and toggling those damn locks on and off). I’m not saying you can’t make it work – it just slows me down SOOOOOOOOOOO much with all the scrolling and toggling I’m nearly crazy as it is (alright, I’m crazier, I guess I was at least halfway round the bend before 😉

The one that always drives me crazy is this: you have an interview byte, cover part of it with b-roll okay so far – THEN the producer decides they want the interview on-cam – guess what, you can’t just pull the clip back into the source window and drop it back on the TL as audio and video, you actually have to recut it to ge the video back!! (at least in 1.5) Hopefully this is one that changed in 2.0 (although no one has mentioned it yet, probably don’t have fickle producers who want an on-line finished program at each step of the off-line!!)

Just a couple more quick (ish) timecode questions. First, in the 1.5 projects obviously all my NDF code is displayed as DF (or vice versa), when I open these projects in 2.0 is it smart enough to reconvert the timecode back to what it SHOULD be, or will I have to recapture and reedit to get clips with the correct TC. Secondly, will it read DF/NDF over the firewire, or do I need some kind of capture card to get it to recognize both types of code.

So, are you saying it correctly id’s the type of code on the tape OR that it actually USES mixed types of code in the same project (that’s what I REALLY need). Also, when you capture from an edl does it now capture individual clips, or does it still capture from the first used fame to the last used frame on each roll (talk about a space sucking NIGHTMARE!!)?

If the lengths of the selection on the timeline and the selection in the viewer don’t mach it will automatically ask you if you want to change in/out on the timeline or source clip (ignore head/tail on sequence/clip). The extra mouse clicks are annoying, but it works just fine.
