Same exact problem here, except running CS6. Unsupported codecs.
Calibrated is a codec that will fix it, but it’s like $165. Funny that Premiere is able to brag about its XDCAM support when it’s that spotty.

I’ve tried Modify Event References. To be honest, I’m not even sure what this command is supposed to do, because i’ve never actually seen it do anything.
No to the two identical. It’s like the program somehow extrapolated that clips were unlinked and needed to be relinked to some black media it invented. When I try to relink to original clips it says they’re not the originals.
I think all this happened when the program said Projects/Events need to be updated a month or so ago.
Only copying old projects from time machine has solved the problem, although I still manually have to relink all kinds of things.
I have been making posts everywhere since no one seems to have any clue what’s happening. Sorry if that’s annoying, I’m just so baffled you can’t force a relink in FCX.

Also, why in hell does the project not automatically relink clips in the Projects when I re-link them in the Event? What is the point of an event otherwise?
It’s amazing that their media management gives you no control, but then does a horrible job of organizing things.

Also, if I re-link clips in the Event Browser, why does it not automatically re-link those clips within the projects? Geez, it’s hard to imagine a worse piece of software…

Having very similar problems where it won’t relink footage, also using 5D footage.
Gives me errors like “new file has audio” or “not long enough to cover clip”
Then, with a lot of those clips that came magically unlinked, a lot just ended up blank black video. No one seems to have heard of this error or offer any help with it, just that “yeah, it doesn’t always work”

Good suggestion, but no success.
It’s not just stills. The video clips often won’t import because it says “old clip didn’t have audio, but the new clip does.” The errors vary, but there are always compatibility problems.
There seems to be a disconnect between footage in Events and clips within the project.

If this helps, it says “The original file didn’t have video, but the new one does.” when I try to relink a still photo I was using in the project… which doesn’t make any sense.

I can actually see clips of the same name in the Event Browser, and play them. I can also play those clips outside of FCX.
WHen I select the clip in the Project and ask it to find it in Event Browser, nothing happens though. I’m guessing its looking for media it can’t find and rather than being designed to tell me what’s happening, it just doesn’t do anything at all. Another design win for Apple.
To speculate, these problems happened after I updated the software and it told me I needed to upgrade the projects / events to work with the software. The program does crash fairly regularly for me as well, so it could have been undergoing some sort of process and cut off halfway though.
I’ve found a painful working solution by using a backup to copy over the project / event files over the newer versions (yes, I made a backup of the newer versions first). It worked but cost me days of labor, and who knows when it will happen again?
