Cheaper way had its irony in it just ignore it.
4k render needs at least 2 gb of gpu ram as fas as i have got it.
So ideally you would go with 3 as you have 4,5 k material with some overhead.

it seems you have gone the cheaper way.
4,5 k needs more gpu ram than you have currently.

i bet i7 calculates faster and has faster io from cpu to ram etc.
tracking is done in cpu imo.

i wonder how did you mod for mercury and if you need to connect monitors to resolve gnu for mercury.

Have you tested 2:3 pull also ?
I do not work myself in 23 fp but just trying to think with you on that.
It seems to me like config problem.

just test it out. in config page see that your resolution number for timeline has P with it as progressive.
dslr material should be handled as progressive as it was shot.
