Locking up your dongle

I don’t lock mine up. Just keep it plugin on the back of the tower, haven’t had a problem.

I suppose if you wanted to keep it under lock and key you just run a USB cable to a hub within a lockbox.

I kind of assumed this was a question for someone who works as a DIT and has a Resolve machine on set. I would weld a lock box to the DIT cart with a USB hub in it.

There’s a number of dongle-security products out there, such as the “Dongle Lockbox“. My inclination is to believe that these products will only deter casual, opportunistic dongle theft, and won’t be much protection against someone who already knows that you have a dongle, and comes equipped with the minor tools necessary to liberate it from your machine.

I suppose a more secure way to do it would be to install an internal USB PCIe card in your machine (assuming you have a tower), and install the USB dongle internally.

I’ve always wondered how software vendors secured their dongles in environments such as a tradeshow like NAB. Seems like the only way to secure them would be to physically secure the entire computer itself.

Unless Lite started working with multiple GPUs and I didn’t notice, I still need that software! And it won’t work without the dongle.

The full DaVinci Resolve is now pirated and available on torrent website, working without a dongle.

If someone was willing to break into your office, hack the retinal scanner and dodge the laser anti theft system to steal a dongle, before downloading a pirated version, they’d be pretty insane.
