Regarding point 4 below: –

4.2.0 format has been used in broadcasting for a long time and is still a broadcast format. The electronic TV signal is still transmitted in 4.2.0 format and will continue to. Just because some producers in TV stations made the choice that they want their footage only in 4.2.2 is NOT because this is the only broadcast format. The majority of the ENG footage is still shot in 4.2.0 format so it’s not entirely true what you state in relation to point 4. Also, TV stations’ policies do not state the 4.2.2 sampling is the ONLY broadcast format acceptable.

The differences are that PAL delivers a scanning/frame rate of 25fps with 625 lines, while NTSC delivers a scanning/frame rate of 29.97fps using 525 lines. A TV signal is made from interlaced half frame, hence the 25fps in 50Hz countries and 30fps in 60Hz countries.

So to clarify, if you shoot in a PAL country you’d go all the way with your workflow, from shooting to editing and transmission… So if you want to edit your footage and drop it in a timeline, the same applies to NTSC format.

Yes, you are correct. You can shoot NTSC if you want to, and you can switch to PAL if you want to. Not like the old tape format where the cameras were either NTSC or PAL.

Hi Greg,
If switch from NTSC to PAL recording format the default setting will be 1080/50i. So if you want to record 1080/25P you have to select this frame rate within the PAL format menu.

Is it possible to advise what firmware version your EX1 is on and what type of adapter are you using?

To access the firmware version on your EX1, while the camera is on, you press simultaneously 3 buttons: –

MENU | SELECT | CANCEL

Then within the display, scroll all the way down to the bottom and you’ll see the firmware version.

Hi Alan, Yes, you are correct, the reader which we have on our website, is designed to be hardwired internally to a PC or Mac. It cannot be used as a stand alone device connected to a USB port. Yes you can use Sony SXS and MXM adapters.
