Yes. It is official. Matt at BorisFX says that Boris made the announcement at NAB back in April. Supposedly Media 100 will be updated to work with new versions of the Mac OS and third party hardware but no new features for Media 100 itself.
I don’t know why that announcement was not made on this forum but I guess that it confirms that this forum is no longer an official conduit for M100 news from BorisFX
Peter at BorisFX confirmed that there will be a Boris RED 6, and in an email to Boris, Boris (paraphrasing) said that “then current” versions of Media 100 will continue to work with new versions of RED. How that will happen if “maintenance updates only” means that there will not be a 64 bit version of M100, I don’t know. I guess we will have to wait for the release of RED 6 (and 7 etc.) to find out.
I don’t know if this info muddies the situation for you, as far as whether to upgrade or move on, but that is the info I have been able to gather from official sources.
Which NLE might you go to?

I understand that Media 100 is only in “maintenance mode” and no new features are forthcoming. But what about bug fixes like RED not releasing Media 100 sometimes; do you know if the Boris FX folks will at least try to perform bug fixes?
Finally, a Boris rep has confirmed that there will be a Boris RED 6. Any word on whether the current Media 100 will be able to work with 6, or is M100 Suite eternally stuck with Boris RED 5.x?

Oh, and regarding Boris RED 6, I really hope that there are some substantial new capacities being built into six. While there were a couple of new features specific to RED 5, in reality, RED 5 ended up being mostly a repository for BCC and FEC filters. Don’t get me wrong, those filters were very welcome, and I certainly hope RED 6 receives loooong overdue BCC 8 filters, but beyond the filers, the upgrade was rather slight, especially after such a long wait between RED 4.x and 5.

Thank you for commenting on the status or RED and the info regarding Media 100 Suite.

Peter, can you speak for the company regarding development of Media 100 Suite (and RED as well)? I have been asked to recommend computer and editing software for a large concern. Quite frankly, I am hesitant to recommend Media 100 Suite since there has been so little in the way of major upgrades and new features for almost two years. I don’t have to know specifics, but knowing the BorisFX does indeed plan to release a significant upgrade *soon* would help me to consider recommending Media 100.

Slowe. There was no “bitching” in the post. Have a great day.

Oh, and if Sony could convince HitFilm, NewFX and the other members of the Vegas Pro Suite to come along for the Mac-ride, I would be one very happy preditor (I would add Boris RED to the mix, as well)! Shazamm!

Or a (significant) Media 100 Suite update/new version.

Can you make any kind of statement about the future of Media 100? Does it have a future?

Jim, would you mind elaborating further on why you consider M100 to have the best interface (compared to the other NLEs listed in your signature) and the reasons why you choose to finish in M100 rather than those other editors (what do you see as the M100 advantages)?
Thanks
