Christmas, please. And even by then, it would still be a great present.

Michael, good to see that you are still around and just as feisty as ever. I use cuts and dissolves mostly, but since not everyone edits documentaries 100% of the time, the rest of us have to learn and use some “jazz”, ya dig? As far as the opacity issue, it’s weird, because on some clips I CAN’T set a node and adjust the opacity. The node won’t move in the downward direction.

It turns out that this very malady – graphics with black lines – is addressed in the M100 User Guide, page 11-28.

Hello Jaeson. Cropping in RED did the trick for the most part on the last project. Thanks for the suggestion.I look forward to trying your other solutions as well.

Thank you, sir. I, like you, zoom in to align, but it’s not “auto” enough for me. I will try your other suggestion.

I’m an Amigan from way back so every time that you mention DraCo and Movieshop, I get all misty eyed. I never had one, but I sure wanted one. I was actually working on getting a Broadcaster Elite (Applied Magic) for my Amiga 3000. Never got further than buying the (very expensive) audio card portion of the Broadcaster Elite. I never installed it, thinking that i would get the rest of the system later, which didn’t happen.

Movieshop just seems to be so far ahead of it’s time. Is that your perspective? I would have loved to try it in combination with ImageFX and Wildfire. That would have been a great system.

Have you considered renting office space?

I have no USB 3.0 capability but i am curious if eSata is an option for you?

  • And cheers to you too, Peter. Thank you.

    Thanks Peter.

Of course, I know that filters new to BCC 9 (and BCC 8 in several instances) are not in RED.

You know, we were warping, morphing and video morphing on our Amiga computers way back in the early ’90s using software like Art Department Pro, ImageFX and Imagemaster and not a single AE mask was in sight.

Here we are 20 years later and those features are not available through RED. May I humbly suggest that you by-pass the BCC way of doing things and simply build those capabilities into the core RED engine?

And yes, you are correct. Boris RED 5 was released years ago…with no new filters or significant capabilities in the ensuing time. That’s what I am referencing. Is it really that difficult to update RED periodically, beyond bug fixes? It took years to get from RED 4.3 to Boris 5 and now it’s taking years to get from 5 to 6. I can’t tell you how many funerals I have been to while waiting on RED 6…

I really do hope that RED 6 brings da juice and that RED is not forever just a repository for BCC filters. Based on what I’ve read, the jump from RED 3 to RED 4 was truly awesome, significantly bolstering the native RED engine. The jump from 4.3 to 5 as far as new capabilities for the core RED program was less a jump and more like a baby step. Yes, we got a whole lot of BCC and FEC filters (thank you!) but I think that it’s safe to say that after all of those years, the core features upgrade was very underwhelming. We really expected much more.

This could be mitigated somewhat if we could use 3rd party plug-ins with RED (we can’t), or if vendors beyond Eye Scream Factory were producing templates and such (they aren’t). With third party support, users could periodically extend RED’s functionality while waiting on RED updates and new versions.

That’s why I finally broke down and bought Motion 5, so that I could advantage of great plug-ins and templates. Now, Motion upgrades are about as slow to come as RED upgrades, but that’s okay. You could buy one Motion template or plug-in a day and probably still will not have purchased them all by the time Motion 6 is released. As far as the same principle being applied to RED, well, you would be done purchasing everything in less than a week and still have years to wait on a RED upgrade (and more funerals to attend. Hopefully not your own).

Regarding Media 100…thanks for any help you can scrounge up. It has been close to 3 years since the last time anyone from or representing BorisFX HQ has posted on the COW Media 100 forum (not including the help from Floh in Germany). Just another one of those Boris FX way of doing things that frustrates us and makes us shake our collective heads.

    I appreciate your help.

  • Peter, my apologies. I was not clear that I was trying this in RED standalone. The process works as you describe when using clips from the Media 100 timeline. When you mentioned “timeline” I thought that you were referring to the timeline in the RED UI.

Since you mentioned that you would not be surprised at this behavior in RED standalone, I take it that BorisFX is aware of tis bug.
