Raylight has native DVCPROHD support for Premiere Pro, you can drag the MXF files
straight in to your project window. -

This is an insidious new feature in QT 7.1 I think having to do with the “presentation aperture” being a 10% crop. When I run QT Pro for Windows on a DVCPROHD movie for example, (using the Raylight decoder) I can see the setting in the movie track properties, “Presentation” tab. Fortunately it can be turned off.
Why did they do this? I really wish someone in the know at Apple could respond here and explain it. From the other responses here it’s obvious that No One Was Informed.

The main difference between Axio and Raylight is that Raylight relies on CPU power (at least dual core for multistream playback) rather than the add-in card, that’s why you could probably buy about three systems running Raylight vs. one system running Axio.

DVFilm Maker ( https://dvfilm.com/maker ) can convert VOB or MPG files directly
into AVI or quicktime. It can also at the same time (if you want)
convert 60i to 24p, 60i to 30p, or remove 3:2 pulldown, with very
high quality, probably better quality than you would get by capturing
from the analog output of a DVD player. -

Raylight defaults to square pixels but 1.333 is the right
settings for “Native frame Size” see the Raylight Config Panel.There’re few advantages in Raylight with using native frame size
since it handles the stetch internally and does a very good
job with it. I would stick with the default square pixel format

However you can use it to build your project and then install the release version before the final render without having to re-do anything.
Also DVFilm Maker ($145) will convert MXF files to uncompressed AVI or quicktime and then you can use File->Export to make an image file sequence.
