[gary adcock] “720p25 is stored in a 720p50 video stream, 1080psf25 is laid into the 1080i50 using a 2:2:2:2 patter where every 1080 frame is separated into 2 fields

    ga”

Gary what is the SMPTE spec for 720p50? SMPTE 370M describes 1080i60, 720p60 and 1080i50, but no
720p50. Also the frames for 720/25pn as recorded by the HVX200 take up exactly half the same amount of space as a 1080i50 frame, and they take up more space per frame than 720/30pn or 720/24pn. (288,000 bytes vs 240,000 for 720/30pn). Did you know that?

There is. 720p25 is stored in a 1080i50 stream so every other frame is redundant.
720/25PN only stores the non-redundant frames and uses half the space. So
generally you should use 720/25PN for recording to a P2 card, 720/25P for streaming over
firewire. Right now Raylight https://dvfilm.com/raylight is the only editing solution for
720/25P and it requires that you use 720/25PN.

You might look at DVFilm Maker https://dvfilm.com/maker which is
very popular for removing the video look from movies. It will not
improve the quality but it will give you film-like
characteristics including film motion, grain and color.

Yes, you can do that, and you can also use Raylight to remove pulldown
from 1080-24P 2:3:3:2 pulldown and export to Avid DNxHD, which Avid cannot do right now either
last I heard. Keep in mind the timecode will probably not convey.

    Raylight is at https://dvfilm.com/raylight

Vegas works with 720p25, 1080i50, and 1080p25 with Raylight https://dvfilm.com/raylight

In this case the DVCPROHD codec was created independently by DVFilm, mostly
so our transfer to film customers can shoot with the HVX200 and HVX200E.

It also works with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Window Media Player,
and many other applications, basically anything that supports Video
    for Windows and HD-sized movies.

Raylight with Adobe Premiere or Raylight with Sony Vegas supports 720p25
    right now. See https://dvfilm.com/raylight
