+1 Neat Video
+1000 OFX.
More and more clients are wanting to look at finishing effects whilst looking at the grade. If Davinci added support for open architecture like OFX AND added a render cache management system (or fix the one it has so it remembers caches) Davinci could be a formidable finishing tool as well as a great Dailies machine 😉

Sorry to bring this up again but I just wanted to make two clarification questions to the above post in regards to a system running 5k r3d Epic footage with one Red rocket card:
1. When you have an epic 5k HDRX r3d in the Davinci timeline, and you do not invoke a second input node to grade HDRX, then presumably the Rocket card would only be providing only one 5k stream, right?
2. In the above situation if your timeline is 1920 x 1080 and your R3d codec setting is “Full Res Premium”, then the red rocket would be rendering a full 5k picture down to 1920 for Davinci, and Davinici would therefore not be able to play realtime no matter what your hardware configuration was (as the Bottleneck would be in the Red Rocket)?
Thanks,
Marcus.

June 19, 2012 at 1:50 pm in reply to: Red Rocket no working in OSX 10.7.4 with Resolve 8.2b3Hi Juan,
I haven’t tried moving the cards around, as they are in the order recommended by the config guide but will give it a go.
We recently bought our Cubix expander, and this is the first time we’ve tried it out with the rocket and Davinci. We decided to install a new version of Lion as all the posts on the forum seem to indicate that it works.
Thanks,
Marcus.

The drivers Rocket drivers & firmware that I have installed are the ones recommended in the config guide. Before I installed those I tried the latest Rocket drivers, which caused the same sluggish response.
Thanks,

No problem Margus,
Please share it with everyone!
Just haven’t been been able to set up a FTP site to do it yet.
Cheers,
Marcus.

Hi Todd,
Thanks for clearing that up – I will use accordingly.
Interesting your point about using multiple reports to assess brevity of the problem.I would wager one well documented bug report would beat 1000 bad ones, and could save your logging time. Just a thought.
Also -it’s great to have Adobe staff on this forum. Much appreciated!

Thanks guys,
Happy to use the form, but I must say it’s a little discouraging and I probably won’t bother for the following reasons:
There’s no way to send you example projects, logs, photos or videos of problems encountered.
There’s no way to keep track of bugs, or to know what been documented in the past to avoid double handling. From I can tell its not a portal to community of testers – more like a help desk where complaints are logged. There’s a lot of work that goes into bug reporting, and these services need to be addressed before it’s worth the effort IMHO.
Thanks,
Marcus.

Found the solution:
Basically you have to use the bundled blackmagic presets of uncompressed 4:2:2 or AVC as your sequence preset. You can’t use any other codec like PRORES or premiere will stop playback and report dropped frames. A limitation certainly but still I’m stoked I can get the software to play in realitime… 😉
Has anyone onlined a 10 bit 4:4:4 feature with premiere with a dual SDI on a mac? I have my doubts…
