[David Mathis] “You mentioned output as PDF, thought you should save it out as PSD, just curious if there is any meaningful difference between the two options.”

PSD is a rasterized, pixel based format while iDraw’s PDFs are vector based, so you can scale them without quality loss.

  • You can have both installed on the same drive, you just need to rename one of the Apps, like “Final Cut Pro 10.0.9.app”. I always backup and rename or delete “~/Library/Application Support/Final Cut/” and all the Final Cut Prefs in “~/Library/Preferences/” before I use the older Version.

Place the cursor after the O and drag the Kerning Slider (Inspector->Text->Format) to the left.

Did you check the performance settings in Neat Video? I think the default is to use CPU only, but I think a combination of CPU+GPU should run somewhat faster on your machine. Go to preferences, performance and run the optimization.
    From the manual:

    Optimize
Use the Optimize… button to open a specialized dialog designed to measure image processing speeds achieved with different combinations of the CPU and GPU settings. It allows to automatically benchmark all possible combinations of settings and to identify the best combination. This is the easiest way to optimize the performance of Neat Video for specific CPU and GPU hardware.

There’s a free FX Factory Plugin, called ‘Manifesto’ that should do the trick.

    https://www.noiseindustries.com/fxfactory/manifesto/

    Key Features

    • Now available in Premiere Pro CS6 and Final Cut Pro X: create static titles and animated rolls/crawls in the newest editing applications.

    • Keyframing optional: no keyframes are required for animation. The text of your choice is scrolled in and out of frame automatically, based on the length of the generator track. This feature also lets you match a title roll (or crawl) to the duration of a different clip.
    • Use existing RTF files: this plug-in can reference an existing RTF file on disk, allowing you to rely entirely on an external program for text input and layout.
    • Built-in motion blurring and de-flickering: create high-quality animations at any frame rate with built-in motion blur and the ability to reduce interlacing artifacts.
    • Easy masking abilities: use external media to determine which portions of the title are visible, or viceversa.

  • Simply drag&drop in the Project Browser.
Moving the project folder via the Finder works also, but you have to close/reopen Final Cut for that.

  • I’d say that’s a FCPX friendly folder structure. With the setting “import Folders as Keyword Collections” checked, every clip gets tagged automatically with the right keywords. Then just make simple Smart Collections that include the desired Keyword Collections. Set Filter to “Keyword Collection” and “Include All” and then, for example Lake A + Best and so on.

this behaviour depends on your import settings – if it’s set to “copy to event” the drag&drop always copies the media.

but here’s a trick: if you uncheck “copy media to event” in preferences it defaults to “make links”, but you can hold the ALT key while drag&drop to switch to “copy to event” on the fly. the cursor changes to reflect the used operation – green plus-sign for “copy to event” and black arrow for “make links to media”.
