Hi, Selling an iMac with FCPX 10.09 on it. (About to wipe the drive). I’d like to be able to install this older version on my new MBPro (running Mavericks w/FCPX 10.1) if needed later. Can I do this? If not, please advise on how to archive the older version. Thanks!

You can’t have both versions on the same system drive, but you can save and reinstall 10.09 by zipping it up. I have all the old versions of FCP archived in this way.

You can have both installed on the same drive, you just need to rename one of the Apps, like “Final Cut Pro 10.0.9.app”. I always backup and rename or delete “~/Library/Application Support/Final Cut/” and all the Final Cut Prefs in “~/Library/Preferences/” before I use the older Version.
