I haven’t played with imovie in about 20 years, but I know it wasn’t meant for things like Metadata. I recently used Premiere Pro’s metadata window to confirm when something important took place. I believe it had the time and date it was shot, and the camera settings. I would try that.

As far as batch renaming, I don’t know of anything for video clips. I have had to do that before. It’s not fun. What I did was copy the name of the clip and do a rename, and paste over everything but the clip number. Ex: Birthday_Pty-101.mov. Try that. I think it would be faster than a recapture.

  • Try emailing Neil Matsumoto, he is one of their camera reps. If he can’t help you, he should be able to get you to the person that can. neil.matsumoto@us.panasonic.com

  • I don’t have the same camera or lens, so I can’t give you a direct answer, but I would try calling a Panasonic authorized dealer or official support center. Many times they have someone who can work with you over the phone. This has helped me in the past.

Does the tape have breaks in the timecode? That can throw it off. You can also get an inexpensive SDI card and capture it as pro res. I haven’t used FCP in a long time, so I don’t know if that would work. I capture a lot from the SDI on My DSR-2000 through a Blackmagic Design H264 Pro Recorder and and the BMD capture app that works with their capture devices. It captures a whole tape with broken timecode without issue to PCs. I imagine it would work the same on a Mac.

  • Amazon has them.

  • Find a TBC. The difference is night and day. Most digitizers won’t work properly without a TBC before it. If you can’t find a stand alone TBC, depending where you are you may be able to find a cheap Betacam SP recorder that will allow you to pass the video signal through its built in TBC. I have done this before with Betacam SP recorders and Panasonic AG-7750 pro S-VHS decks.

  • What deck are you using? Are you using a TBC? What quality are you looking for?
