  • can’t update Panasonic lens firmware after Lumix S5ii body update

Posted by Sam Frazier, Jr. on January 16, 2025 at 7:35 am

Just updated the body firmware of this camera to v3.1 but the lens, a Panasonic LUMIX S 24-105mm F4 (S-R24105), firmware still reads 1.1 whereas Panasonic lists 1.3 as the most recent version available. When I try to update the lens, the camera says either firmware is already installed (if both the body and lens firmware are on the card) or something about there being no firmware on the card if only the lens firmware is on the card (ie the body firmware has been used, updated, & deleted).

But, there’s a confusing page on Panasonic site where you download the firmware that says:

“Please refer the firmware update workflow from below for each combinations of the L-Mount alliance camera body and lens.”
Under this is a chart that shows:

    Camera Body/ Lens/ Update Procedure
Panasonic/ Panasonic/ Update using Panasonic camera body

But, under that is a chart that shows:

“For Panasonic products listed below, firmware update program is available from each download page.”

    Product/ Series/ Model/ Version/ Date/ Download/Description

    LUMIX S lens/ Standard/ S-R24105/ Ver.1.3/ APR. 18, 2023/ (LINK TO DOWNLOAD FIRMWARE)

So, is my lens up to date or do I need to do something to get it to v1.3?

I don’t have the same camera or lens, so I can’t give you a direct answer, but I would try calling a Panasonic authorized dealer or official support center. Many times they have someone who can work with you over the phone. This has helped me in the past.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately, trying to get a phone number to call Panasonic is just about impossible. I looked and tried for over an hour today. They don’t want you to call and instead you have to fill out a form in the hopes that it reaches the right dept and someone there knows what you’re talking about. Then you have to wait for an email and hope it answers your question w/o the need for a followup. Not something I’d bet on.

And in the past I’ve tried to ask this kind of question to reps at good places like B&H, et al but I end up knowing more about it than they.

This shouldn’t be this hard & it would be nice if companies made more of an effort. At least I could call and talk to someone from Tamron today.

Try emailing Neil Matsumoto, he is one of their camera reps. If he can’t help you, he should be able to get you to the person that can. neil.matsumoto@us.panasonic.com

Thank you, but I already returned the camera. I didn’t want to , but I couldn’t justify the purchase.
