Do you have to use uncompressed video? Why not use lossless compression like PNG (if you are working with Quicktime) or almost lossless compression like Photo-JPEG at 100% quality (absolutely unnoticable compression during a round-trip)?

    Check out this blog:

There is a long list of links on the page, too.

What exactly do you want to be on screen? A colourful time-tunnel? For this you could use Motion’s particles. Check out the library of emitters and tweak from there.

I’d agree with Oliver that you should use your compositing software’s tracking feature on a per shot basis. Personally I’d do this with Eyeon’s Fusion, but I guess it’s the same in other programs: assign a tracking marker to every apple then attach the same roughly apple-shaped mask to each tracker. You’d go mad if you manually rotoscoped every apple.

    From the Quick-Reference:
    Show Master Clip -> Shift-F

Maybe that’s what you are looking for.

  • You could only select the sequence(s) you need and then use the media manager (careful: backup first!) to create a copy of your project with just the used bits from the sequence(s) being offline and ready for recapture.

Or, you could try to delete the clips from the bin. If they’re in use, you’ll get a warning, otherwie they’re gone (undoable).

Maybe this helps, maybe a more experienced user knows a better method.

  • My favourite Quicktime codec for all things animated is Photo JPEG at 100% quality. It is not uncompressed, but it’s practically impossible to tell the difference. If you want uncompressed use PNG.

But keep in mind that you could also import your Motion projects directly into FCP5 which would save you the export step (and disk space).

Or, instead of using keyframes on the crop, you could introduce the guy on V2 with an edge wipe, that will, of course, only reveal the cropped image. To be more exact with the timing you can double-click on the wipe and set it to end at the same percentage that is left by the crop (i.e. 100 – crop value). Try it out and you will immediately see what I try to describe 😉

I was hoping that I had overlooked something. Mmmh, might consider getting a BCF as well. The BCR rocks with Reason and Motion, though 🙂

Anyway, I found out that I can at least control the levels of the first eight tracks with my BCR as well. Can’t get transport controls to work, though. If anyone else owning a BCR2000 is interested, I made my .syx-preset available on my website:

Thanks for your help. I already thought of this work-around.
But the beauty of Fusions effect masks is that feathering affects the strength of the effect, eg. going smoothly from unblurred to blurred.

Ah, well, maybe I should file a feature request…

    Cheers,
    Marc
