  • I had this as well, very annoying, I found “media player classic-home cinema” which is a free player, that is color managed. I stopped using the Microsoft player, and Apples and now use this one.

How does this workflow handle dissolves? If the effect is rendered how can you grade the overlap between two clips?

April 28, 2014 at 10:54 pm in reply to: Awarded bid then it’s recalled

They “unilaterally” killed the contract, is there a “kill fee”? If so, send them a bill. If you want to do business with them, then you have to start over and go through the process again.

There are some clients that are not worth having, they cost you more than they are worth, the hard part is determining that BEFORE you sign on the dotted line, and then make no profit on a job, and in the worst case scenario it actually costs you money.

Bids are VERY dangerous, as there is NO opportunity to get “overages” unless it’s stipulated in the contract. Be very careful about “versions” as you can go broke in post by the “client” never being happy with the cut. Spell out, exactly what you are delivering, any included changes, and everthing after that is to be billed “time and materials”

If you are signing a contract that you have NO input in, you are in a very poor negotiating position, they have spent the time covering their behind, and making sure any and all liability is on your head, not theirs. Read it carefully and consult an attorney if there is ANY language you don’t understand, do not go back to the client for clarification as “verbal” interpretations are not binding and you will be held to the written contract.

If you have to sign quickly, and they will not give you the time to have an attorney review it for you, they are screwing you and you should consider walking away.

    Good luck,

You are not “out of touch” it’s just pure greed. Send them a note rejecting their contract, I would also contact the publisher, not the attorney to see if they really want to screw all their writers, if so, then post about them at will.

April 22, 2014 at 12:45 am in reply to: Davinci Resolve Workflow with Sony Vegas Pro

If I render before importing to resolve, rather than “rount tripping” how do I handle dissolves? Do I have to render 2 video tracks and then dissolve back in Vp?

April 22, 2014 at 12:17 am in reply to: Davinci Resolve Workflow with Sony Vegas Pro

The “video candy” tutorial is not working for me, he has VP 10/32 bit. I’m using VP 12/64bit. I bring in my media, and the .aaf file, nothing! It says there is no “media” in the timeline, even though there is! Just for fun I imported an .xml and resolve crashed immediately, with no warnings, every time.

Has anyone got this to work?

April 16, 2014 at 10:53 pm in reply to: C100 – HDMI vs HDSDI

The C100 ONLY has HDMI output, you don’t have a choice. 8 bit. Mine works fine with the Ninja 2, but Canon has a “locking” HDMI port (screw terminal) the Ninja does not, so I have “perfect path” cables which are friction locked, better that the standard cables, but I would prefer a screw mount solution.

March 29, 2014 at 4:19 am in reply to: Vegas Rendering and Memory Error – AGAIN !!

    It happened again!!!
Now allocating memory will not solve VP12’s appetite for RAM. From the system monitor I watch Vegas use up all 12 gigs of ram and then crash my system. This is very annoying. I did a search on memory allocation and MS windows guide for Win7/64 is the low setting should be at actual ram and the upper setting is 3x ram. So rather than setting “auto” which worked fine last week, I set it to 12/36 and it’s no better. Gave up in frustration and have a shoot this weekend, I’ll be back on Monday to see if this is a persistent problem or it can be solved with a change of settings. I have already uninstalled VP12 and reinstalled it before, no help there.
